  1. 1. Mast cell activation in response to osmotic and immunological stimulation with focus on release of eicosanoid mediators

    Författare :Magdalena Gulliksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction; cyclooxygenase; cord blood derived mast cells; mannitol; prostaglandin D2; leukotriene C4; leukotriene E4; histamine and 15-lipoxygenase.;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. Subjects with asthma have been found to have an increased number of mast cells in their airway smooth muscle and this was related to airway sensitivity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional characterisation of receptors for cysteinyl leukotrienes in smooth muscle

    Författare :Eva Wikström Jonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cysteinyl leukotrienes; leukotriene receptor; histamine; antigen; smooth muscle; lipoxin; thromboxane; Schultz-Dale reaction;

    Sammanfattning : The cysteinyl leukotrienes (leukotriene C4, D4 and E4) have potent biological actions which significantly contribute to the airway obstruction in asthma. Several of these effects are blocked by drugs known as CysLT1-receptor antagonists, which have been introduced as new treatment for asthma. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies of receptors and modulatory mechanisms in functional responses to cysteinyl-leukotrienes in smooth muscle

    Författare :Magnus Bäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cysteinyl-leukotrienes, i.e. leukotriene (LT) C4, D4 and E4, are inflammatory mediators and potent airway- and vasoconstrictors. Two different cysteinyl-leukotriene receptors have been cloned, CysLT, and CysLT2. LÄS MER

  4. 4. An experimental study of mediators in allergic bronchoconstriction with focus on eicosanoids

    Författare :Ewa Selg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; guinea pig lung; ovalbumin; mast cell; cyclooxygenase; airway smooth muscle; COX inhibitors; NSAIDs;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells have a central role in the inflammatory response in airways of both atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. The mast cell-derived mediators such as histamine, leukotriene C4 and prostaglandin D2, released upon activation of the cell, produce acute bronchoconstriction that is characteristic of the early asthmatic response (EAR), and contribute to the development of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness following the initial reaction. 5. 5. Every breath you take every move you make. Studies on Asthma and Sports in Adolescent Athletes

    Författare :Kerstin Romberg; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescence; asthma; airway hyper-reactivity; mannitol provocation; exercise challenge; CC16; gender; life style; quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma and allergies are common diseases in adolescents and have increased during the last few decades. All elite level sports activities result in increased risk of asthma and rhinitis regardless of sport practised. LÄS MER
