  1. 1. Dopamine D2 and D3 receptors. Studies on transduction mechanisms and on the role of a D3 gene polymorphism

    Författare :Monika Hellstrand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dopamine; dopamine D2 receptor; dopamine D3 receptor; transduction; CHO cells; partial agonism; inverse agonism; arachidonic acid; prostaglandin E2; cAMP; haloperidol; -3-PPP; PNU-99194A; polymorphism; personality;

    Sammanfattning : The neurotransmitter dopamine has been implicated in the pathophysiology of, e.g., Parkinson s disease and schizophrenia, and dopamine receptor-active compounds are commonly employed therapeutically in these and other disorders. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prostaglandin E2 as mediator and modulator of airway smooth muscle responses

    Författare :Jesper Säfholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a lipid mediator produced by virtually every cell of the human body. Because common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit its biosynthesis, PGE2 is usually considered to be a ‘pro-inflammatory’ mediator. The role of PGE2 in the lung and airways has however always been unclear. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mast cell activation in response to osmotic and immunological stimulation with focus on release of eicosanoid mediators

    Författare :Magdalena Gulliksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction; cyclooxygenase; cord blood derived mast cells; mannitol; prostaglandin D2; leukotriene C4; leukotriene E4; histamine and 15-lipoxygenase.;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. Subjects with asthma have been found to have an increased number of mast cells in their airway smooth muscle and this was related to airway sensitivity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural and functional studies of L-PGDS and SMPDL3A, enzymes in lipid signaling family

    Författare :Sing Mei Lim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Enzymes are indispensable in maintaining the biological system. They metabolize complex molecules to supply nutrients, to produce energy, to regulate transcription of gene expression, and to control the concentration of effective signaling molecules in a cell, thus maintaining the homeostasis of biological system. 5. 5. Human eosinophils and their activation by allergens via danger signal receptors

    Författare :Elin Redvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :human eosinophils; danger signals; allergen; formyl peptide receptors; CCR3; chemotaxis; degranulation; free oxygen radicals; receptor desensitization;

    Sammanfattning : Human eosinophilic granulocytes are polymorphonuclear cells with a powerful arsenal of cytotoxic substances in their granules, which are mainly found in the gastrointestinal mucosa, and the respiratory and genitourinary tracts. Their physiological role is incompletely understood, although it is likely they protect the mucosal surfaces, perhaps by recognizing danger signals present on microorganisms or released from damaged tissue.
