1. Abiotic Stress Tolerance. Metabolic and Physiological Effects of Compatible Solutes and Calmodulin on E. coli and Tobacco
Sammanfattning : In their natural habitats, bacteria and plants can be exposed to abiotic stresses such as drought, high salt concentrations and freezing, which are factors limiting their capacity for growth and proliferation. To withstand environmental stresses, they have evolved specific stress responses. LÄS MER
2. Att bli bibliotekarie : Informationssökning och yrkesidentiteter hos B&I-studenter och nyanställda högskolebibliotekarier
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to deepen the knowledge on information seeking among Swedish library and information science (LIS) students and newly employed academic librarians, as well as on how information seeking is attributed meaning in the shaping of professional identities. The aim also includes understanding and problematising the relationship between educational and professional practice. LÄS MER
3. Experiments and simulations of lean methane combustion
Sammanfattning : Computational fluid dynamics of methane combustion using chemical kinetics for description of the chemistry is studied. Linear least squares data fit to measured concentrations and temperatures is used to modify reaction rate parameters in the Arrhenius rate equation for combustion of methane. LÄS MER
4. Fluid Management in Haemodialysis : Studies on current practices and new methods
Sammanfattning : Chronic fluid overload has been identified as an independent predictor of mortality in haemodialysis patients, and 30% remain fluid overloaded at dry weight. The use of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) in fluid management may improve blood pressure control and cardiovascular status. LÄS MER
5. Sleep and Sleep-disordered Breathing in Women : Associations with Daytime Symptoms and Metabolism
Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by snoring, apneas and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Although commonly present in OSA, factors relating to daytime sleepiness are not fully elucidated. OSA is associated with obesity and with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus and the metabolic syndrome. LÄS MER
