16. Climate change time machine : Adaptation to 30 years of warming in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Earth mean surface temperature has increased by 1 °C since the industrial revolution, and this has already had considerable effects on animal and plant species. Ecological responses to the warming climate – often facilitated via phenotypic plasticity – are ubiquitous. LÄS MER
17. Distribution and abundance of genetic variation in the arctic fox
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how changes in population size and spatial movements of individuals have shaped the distribution and abundance of neutral genetic variation in the arctic fox. This is done through mitochondrial and microsatellite DNA analyses on samples covering most of the species’ distribution, but with special emphasis on Scandinavia. LÄS MER
18. Hybridisation between introduced brown hares and native mountain hares in Sweden
Sammanfattning : To investigate the extent and effect of hybridisation between wild sympatric populations of introduced brown hares (Lepus europaeus) and native mountain hares (L.timidus) in Sweden, the geographic distribution of genetic variation in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear DNA microsatellite markers were analysed within and between the two species and their presumed hybrids. 19. Invasion of top and intermediate consumers in a size structured fish community
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have investigated the effects of invading top and intermediate consumers in a size-structured fish community, using a combination of field studies, a lake invasion experiment and smaller scale pond and aquaria experiments. The lake invasion experiment was based on introductions of an intermediate consumer, ninespine stickleback (Pungitius pungitius L. LÄS MER
20. Investigations of species richness effects on ecosystem functioning using stream-living macroinvertebrates as model organisms
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis deals with effects of changed species richness on process rates among stream-living macroinvertebrates. Global biodiversity is decreasing rapidly and it is poorly known what the consequences of this loss may be for ecosystems and the services they provide. LÄS MER
