  1. 41. Studies of the Pancreas: Implications for Type 1 Diabetes Aetiology

    Författare :Peter Seiron; Oskar Skog; Michele Solimena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreas; Type 1 Diabetes; Insulitis; Beta cells; Immunology; Tissue resident memory T cells; Islets of Langerhans; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a disease of severe insulin deficiency through loss of β cells in the endocrine pancreas. The T1D dogma maintains that a precipitating event unleashes autoimmunity in at-risk individuals, often measured through autoantibodies against β cell antigens. LÄS MER

  2. 42. Genetics of Diabetes Subtypes. Characterization of novel cluster-based diabetes subtypes

    Författare :Dina Mansour Aly; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Precision medicine; Diabetes Subclassification; genome-wide association studies; GWAS; genetic risk scores; GRS; chronic kidney disease; CKD; diabetic kidney disease; DKD; Estimated glomerular filtration rate; eGFR; ANDIS; diabetes; diabetics;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been reproducibly clustered into five subtypes based on six-clinical variables; age at diabetes onset, body mass index (BMI), Glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and insulin secretion and resistance estimated as HOMA2B and HOMA2IR derived from fasting glucose and Cpeptide. These subtypes have different disease progression and risk of complications. LÄS MER

  3. 43. The Perfect Storm? Gluten and type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Emma Adlercreutz; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NKG2D; Celiac disease autoimmunity; Gluten; Type 1 diabetes; Perinatal risk;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The general objective of the present research was to study the association between type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, and the effects of dietary gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes. More specific aims were as follows: to estimate the prevalence of celiac-disease-associated autoantibodies in children with type 1 diabetes; to study the connection between non-HLA genetic risk markers and autoantibodies associated with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease during the first year after diagnosis of type 1 diabetes; to investigate the effect of gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes; to evaluate the impact of perinatal factors on the risk of developing both type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. 4. 44. Clinical and experimental studies of organ-specific autoimmune diseases : With special reference to Addison's disease and autoimmune hepatitis : by Gennet Gebre-Medhin

    Författare :Gennet Gebre-Medhin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Addison s Disease; replacement therapy; DHEA; autoimmune hepatitis; APS I; autoantigen; cytochrome P4501A2; aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Organ-specific autoimmunity constitutes a large health problem, where both the clinical management and our understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms need to improve. Women with Addison's disease have abnormally low levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), its sulphate ester (DHEA-S) and androgens relative to age, and many patients complain of physical and mental fatigue and low stress tolerance. 5. 45. Serum proteins in type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Nancy Dekki Wenna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : We have previously shown that there are patients with type 1 diabetes T1D whose sera interfere with cytoplasmic free Ca2+-concentration ([Ca2+]i), resulting in -cell apoptosis. In this study the frequency of sera, that induces this effect, was found to be around 35% in T1D patients, and 25% in first degree relatives (FDR) of T1D patients. LÄS MER
