  1. 21. Activation of the Cellular Immune Response in Drosophila melanogaster Larvae

    Författare :Ines Anderl; Dan Hultmark; Paul Badenhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; immunity; blood cells; hematopoiesis; flow cytometry; in vivo imaging; genetic screens; Tl10b; fat body; Toll signaling; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : During the last 40 years, Drosophila melanogaster has become an invaluable tool in understanding innate immunity. The innate immune system of Drosophila consists of a humoral and a cellular component. While many details are known about the humoral immune system, our knowledge about the cellular immune system is comparatively small. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Studies of innate immune stimulation with CpG in HIV infection

    Författare :Salma Nowroozalizadeh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Two types of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may cause acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS): HIV-1, the most pathogenic virus of the two and found worldwide, and HIV-2, which is mostly detected in West Africa and known to be less transmissible and which demonstrates slower progression towards immunodeficiency. How CD4+ T cells are lost during these two infections is not yet completely clear; however, a constant battle against the rapid viral turnover, resulting in chronic inflammation, is thought to exhaust several compartments of the immune system. 3. 23. Streptococcus pneumoniae and the host : activation, evasion and modulation of the human innate immune system

    Författare :Laura Spelmink; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of severe infections such as pneumonia, septicemia and meningitis, but also a common colonizer of the nasopharynx in children. In most individuals colonization is harmless and eventually cleared by the immune system, but in rare cases pneumococci can reach deeper into the body and cause diseases. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Genetics and functions of innate-like lymphocyte subsets

    Författare :Julia Rolf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :innate-like lymphocyte; CD1d; autoimmunity; genetic mapping; microarray; Salmonella infection;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system contains three different branches: innate immunity, adaptive immunity and innate-like lymphocytes that share properties both with the innate and adaptive immune cells. The innate-like lymphocytes have the capacity to rapidly become activated by invading pathogens and also to modulate immune responses and thereby inhibit or promote inflammation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. On the role of innate cell interactions in inflammation and leukemia

    Författare :Rebecca E Riise; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; neutrophils; NK cells; caspase-1; apoptosis; myeloid leukemia; ROS; immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory cells of the innate immune system launch rapid and powerful effector responses in the combat against infectious pathogens. However, these inflammatory mediators may cause excessive damage to the host and, therefore, require rigid control systems to maintain the delicate balance between prompt clearance of infections and the risk of developing immunopathology.
