  1. 6. Talking to the Brain at the Blood-Brain Barrier through Inflammation-Induced Prostaglandin E2

    Författare :Ana Maria Vasilache; Camilla Nilsberth; Sivert Lindström; Fredrik Elinder; Ted Ebendal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The immune-to-brain signaling is a critical survival factor when the body is confronted by pathogens, and in particular by microorganisms. During infections, the ability of the immune system to engage the central nervous system (CNS) in the management of the inflammatory response is just as important as its ability to mount a specific immune response against the pathogen, since the CNS can provide a systemic negative feed-back to the immune activation by release of stress hormones and also can prioritize the usage of the energy resources by the vital organs. 2. 7. Development and evaluation of a subunit DIVA vaccine against bluetongue virus serotype 8 in cattle

    Författare :Jenna Anderson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Bluetongue virus (BTV) causes the primarily vector-borne bluetongue disease of ruminants, which poses a permanent threat to Europe since new serotypes and strains are frequently introduced. Vaccination of cattle is essential to control BTV outbreaks. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Molecular and Cellular Complexity of Glioma : Highlights on the Double-Edged-Sword of Infiltration Versus Proliferation and the Involvement of T Cells

    Författare :Demet Çağlayan; Bengt Westermark; Maria Ferletta; Ana Martin-Villalba; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and malignant brain tumor, is characterized by high molecular and cellular heterogeneity within and among tumors. Parameters such as invasive growth, infiltration of immune cells and endothelial proliferation contribute in a systemic manner to maintain the malignancy. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Aseptic Loosening of Orthopedic Implants : Osteoclastogenesis Regulation and Potential Therapeutics

    Författare :Mehdi Amirhosseini; Anna Fahlgren; Göran Andersson; Teun J. de Vries; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Aseptic loosening is the main cause of failure of orthopedic prostheses. With no pharmaceuticals to prevent or mitigate periprosthetic bone degradation, a surgery to replace the loose implant with a new one is the only choice to restore patients’ function. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Role of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase and Melatonin in Regulation of β-cell Sensitivity to Cytokines

    Författare :Annika K. Andersson; Stellan Sandler; Nils Welsh; Décio L. Eizirik; Nils Billestrup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; β-cell; Cyclooxygenase; Cytokine; Diabetes; IFN-γ; IL-1β; iNOS; Insulin; Melatonin; Nitric oxide; Pancreatic islets; Phospholipase D; Prostaglandin E2; Streptozotocin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of β-cell destruction leading to type 1 diabetes are complex and not yet fully understood, but infiltration of the islets of Langerhans by autoreactive immune cells is believed to be important. Activated macrophages and T-cells may then secrete cytokines and free radicals, which could selectively damage the β-cells. LÄS MER
