  1. 1. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel

    Författare :Lina Ejenstam; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Jinshan Pan; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Superhydrophobic coating; hydrophobic coating; corrosion protection; contact angles; electrochemical measurements; surface characterization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties. 2. 2. On the Development of Mucin-based Biomaterial Coatings

    Författare :Tomas Sandberg; Karin Caldwell; Jan Carlsson; Thomas Arnebrant; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mucin; Biomaterial; Surface-exposed protein; XPS; Neutrophil; Cell morphology; SEM; QCM-D; Viscoelasticity; Protein-stabilization; HNL; Coating; MG1; BSM; PGM; SEC-MALS-RI; Mucin quantification; Protein adsorption; Ellipsometry; Biomaterials; Biomaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Owing to their key role in mucosal functioning as surface barriers with biospecific interaction potentials, the mucins are interesting candidates for use as surface modifiers in biomaterials applications. In this work, “mild” fractionation procedures were used to prepare mucins of bovine (BSM), porcine (PGM), and human (MG1) origin. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Betulin-modified cellulosic textile fibers with improved water repellency, hydrophobicity and antibacterial properties

    Författare :Tianxiao Huang; Monica Ek; Mats Johansson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibacterial; Betulin; Biorefinery; Cellulose; Grafting; Coating; Hydrophobicity; Textile; Water repellency; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Textiles made from natural sources, such as cotton and flax, have advantages over those made of synthetic fibers in terms of sustainability. Unlike major synthetic fibers that have a negative impact on the environment due to poor biodegradability, cotton cellulose is a renewable material. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Towards compatibilization of cellulose nanofibrils in polymer matrices : Polymer design for mediating the nanofibril–matrix interface

    Författare :Rosella Telaretti Leggieri; Eva Malmström; Mats Johansson; Catarina de Carvalho Esteves; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose nanofibril CNF ; copolymer; nanocomposite; coating; reinforcement; interface; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Magnifying the nanostructure of wood reveals the features of an extraordinary nanocomposite material. In this nanocomposite, long fibrils of semicrystalline cellulose, with a cross-section in the nanometer range and length up to several micrometers, are embedded in an amorphous matrix made of other polymeric components. 5. 5. Regulation of thromboinflammation in therapeutic medicine : Special focus on surface coating strategies

    Författare :Sana Asif; Bo Nilsson; Christine Skerka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Biomaterials are an integral part of modern health care and offer potential treatment modalities to diseases and conditions otherwise intractable. However, the critical issue herein is incompatibility reactions. LÄS MER
