  1. 1. On the Development of Mucin-based Biomaterial Coatings

    Författare :Tomas Sandberg; Karin Caldwell; Jan Carlsson; Thomas Arnebrant; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mucin; Biomaterial; Surface-exposed protein; XPS; Neutrophil; Cell morphology; SEM; QCM-D; Viscoelasticity; Protein-stabilization; HNL; Coating; MG1; BSM; PGM; SEC-MALS-RI; Mucin quantification; Protein adsorption; Ellipsometry; Biomaterials; Biomaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Owing to their key role in mucosal functioning as surface barriers with biospecific interaction potentials, the mucins are interesting candidates for use as surface modifiers in biomaterials applications. In this work, “mild” fractionation procedures were used to prepare mucins of bovine (BSM), porcine (PGM), and human (MG1) origin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biomarkers of acute kidney injury

    Författare :Johan Mårtensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and potentially fatal complication in critically ill patients. The diagnosis relies on functional markers of decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) such as creatinine. Unfortunately, a rise in plasma creatinine lags behind the early structural changes that occur in response to various renal insults. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Granulocyte Adhesion to Matrix Proteins and the Effect on the Release of Granule Proteins : Development of a Simple Method and its Application in Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Xiaoyan Xu; Joachim Lundahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Adhesion; Release of ECP; Extracellular matrix proteins; Granulocytes; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Granulocyte adhesion and release of their granule proteins are key steps during selective accumulation of a certain cell to an inflammatory site. Eosinophils are specifically recruited to sites of allergic inflammation and parasitic infection, whereas neutrophil influx predominates in bacterial infection and rheumatoid arthritis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Coagulase-negative staphylococci septicaemia in newborns : aspects on host-bacterial interactions with special regard to neutrophil and endothelial response

    Författare :Maria Björkqvist; Stellan Håkansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Newborn infants, especially those born preterm, are immunologically immature and prone to invasive infections. As a result of the increasing survival of very preterm (VPT < 31 weeks gestational age) newborns, nosocomial septicaemia has become a major concern the neonatal intensive care, and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are nowadays the most frequently isolated pathogens in neonatal blood cultures. 5. 5. Covalent coupling of antibodies to solid phases, in particular to particles and their use in immunoassay

    Författare :Gerd Rundström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioanalytical engineering; Bioanalytisk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : The immobilisation of antibodies (Ab) or antigens (Ag) to solid phases is always a critical step when developing a heterogeneous immunoassay. There are two main procedures: passive adsorption and covalent coupling. Adsorption is a simple method, but it has its disadvantages including denaturation of antibodies and their leakage from the surface. LÄS MER
