1. Bulk and interfacial properties of cellulose ethers
Sammanfattning : This work summarizes several studies that all concern cellulose ethers of the types methylcellulose (MC) hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC). They share the feature of negative temperature response, as they are soluble in water at room temperature but phase separate and sometimes form gels at high temperatures. LÄS MER
2. Neutron and X-ray Surface Scattering Reveals the Morphology of Soft Matter Thin Films
Sammanfattning : The last decades have been overshadowed by reports about the seemingly endless increase use of fossil-based resources. With the development of new products, our mindset is changing so that we more and more need to consider sustainability in our daily lives. LÄS MER
3. Cellulose Dissolution and Amphiphilicity : Insights on the Emulsion Formation and Stabilization
Sammanfattning : An amphiphilic polymer is expected to adsorb at the oil-water interface and be capable of stabilizing emulsions. Cellulose derivatives, cellulose nanoparticles and regenerated cellulose particles show an intrinsic amphiphilic character by self-assembling at oil-water interfaces and stabilizing emulsions without the aid of surfactants or any other co-stabilizers. 4. Catalytic valorization of lignocellulose : Direct and sidestream upgrading approaches
Sammanfattning : This work aims to explore different approaches for the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass. In this regard, two different strategies are presented: the catalytic upgrading of lignocellulose derivatives from industrial streams, such as pyrolytic oil and kraft lignin, and the direct catalytic fractionation of woody biomass. 5. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel
Sammanfattning : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties.
