  1. 1. Att släcka ljungeldar : Medikaliseringen av eklampsi i Sverige 1840-1930

    Författare :Olivia Ekman; Jenny Eklöf; Erland Mårald; Maria Björk; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; eklampsi; preeklampsi; havandeskapsförgiftning; medikalisering; medicinhistoria; idéhistoria; kvinnohistoria; Aktiv metod; Stroganoffs metod; History Of Sciences and Ideas; idé- och lärdomshistoria; Medical Humanities; medicinsk humaniora;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the treatment of eclampsia in Sweden at the turn of the 20th century, paying particular attention to two treatments, the “Active treatment” and “Stroganoff’s treatment”. The aim is to investigate the evolving medicalization of eclampsia in Sweden by analyzing the interdisciplinary discussion on eclampsia in the Swedish medical journals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Monoamine transporters in female human reproduction

    Författare :Barbara Bottalico; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PMAT; VMAT2; OCT; NET; in-situ hybridization histochemistry; decidualization; human endometrium; placenta; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monoamine transporters; preeclampsia; histamine; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The present study explored the gene and protein expression of the monoamine transporters in human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle, in early decidua and in placentas from normal as well as preeclamptic pregnancies using in-situ hybridization, real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and primary tissue cultures. Four distinguishable patterns were observed in the endometrium over the menstrual cycle: (1) epithelial expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET) mRNA, (2) Stromal co- expression of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) and plasma membrane monoamine transporter (PMAT) mRNAs with maximal intensity in the proliferative phase; (3) increasing epithelial expression of VMAT2 mRNA with a maximum in the late secretory phase; (4) stromal expression of extra-neuronal monoamine transporter (EMT) mRNA with a peak in the early secretory phase. 3. 3. Immune regulation at the foetal-maternal interface; implications for healthy and complicated pregnancies

    Författare :Robert Lindau; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl; Petra Arck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : For a successful pregnancy, the maternal immune system must acquire tolerance towards the paternal antigens present in the semi-allogeneic foetus. This tolerance is mainly established locally at the foetal-maternal interface, where foetally-derived trophoblasts invade the maternal endometrium (called decidua during pregnancy) and come in close proximity to maternal immune cells. 4. 4. Maternal smoking during pregnancy - Long-term health effects in the offspring

    Författare :Kristina Mattsson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Maternal smoking during pregnancy; Medical Birth Register; long-term health effects; register validation; biomarker;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, around 10 % of women smoke during pregnancy today. It is known that pregnancy smoking increases the risk of adverse short-term health effects in the offspring, such as preterm birth, low birthweight and spontaneous abortion. Less is known about whether any adverse health effects persist until adulthood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and health risks for mother and child

    Författare :Ebba Malmqvist; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; air pollution; pregnancy; birth outcomes; ozone modeeling; preeclampsia; Type1 Diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : We had in the present thesis the unique possibility to use, in a socio-economically relatively homogenous population, high quality registry information on a population-based birth cohort (84 039 births during the period 1999-2005) in Scania (Skåne), the most Southern county of Sweden. The aim of the thesis was to investigate whether exposure to air pollution, in an area of low-levels exposures, during different periods of the pregnancy was associated with birth outcomes, pregnancy complications and risk of the child to develop type I diabetes (T1D).
