6. Genome and Transcriptome Comparisons between Human and Chimpanzee
Sammanfattning : The chimpanzee is humankind’s closest living relative and the two species diverged ~6 million years ago. Comparative studies of the human and chimpanzee genomes and transcriptomes are of great interest to understand the molecular mechanisms of speciation and the development of species-specific traits. 7. Dynamics of the Bacterial Genome : Rates and Mechanisms of Mutation
Sammanfattning : Bacterial chromosomes are highly dynamic, continuously changing with respect to gene content and size via a number of processes, including deletions that result in gene loss. How deletions form and at what rates has been the focus of this thesis. In paper II we investigated how chromosomal location affects chromosomal deletion rates in S. LÄS MER
8. Phylogeny and topological incongruence in the Rubioideae (Rubiaceae)
Sammanfattning : The work with this thesis has focused on evolutionary relationships in the Rubioideae, the most species-rich subfamily of the large and diverse coffee family (Rubiaceae). Despite considerable efforts during the last decades, uncertainty regarding several relationships in this group has remained, either as a result of unconvincing statistic support, incongruent results, or insufficient taxon sampling. 9. Understanding Cancer Mutations by Genome Editing
Sammanfattning : Mutational analyses of cancer genomes have identified novel candidate cancer genes with hitherto unknown function in cancer. To enable phenotyping of mutations in such genes, we have developed a scalable technology for gene knock-in and knock-out in human somatic cells based on recombination-mediated construct generation and a computational tool to design gene targeting constructs. 10. Computational Modelling of Gene Regulation in Cancer : Coding the noncoding genome
Sammanfattning : Technological advancements have enabled quantification of processes within and around us. The information stored within our body converts into petabytes of data. Processing and learning from such data requires comprehensive computational programs and software systems. LÄS MER
