  1. 21. Mitochondria and Human Evolution

    Författare :Max Ingman; Ulf Gyllensten; Peter Underhill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mitochondria; hominidae; human evolution; population genetics; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been a potent tool in studies of the evolution of modern humans, human migrations and the dynamics of human populations over time. The popularity of this cytoplasmic genome has largely been due to its clonal inheritance (in Man) allowing the tracing of a direct genetic line. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Genetic studies of schizophrenia

    Författare :Eva Lindholm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Schizophrenia; complex diseases; mitochondria; large pedigree; linkage analysis; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of schizophrenia is about 1% throughout the world. The disease is characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions and bizarre behavior. A genetic contribution to the disease was previously shown through epidemiological studies. The mitochondrial DNA was sequenced in four schizophrenic patients. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Postglacial Population History of the Common Shrew (Sorex araneus) in Fennoscandia : Molekylära studier av återkolonisation, könsbundet genflöde och kromosomrasbildning

    Författare :Anna-Carin Andersson; Håkan Tegelström; Cecilia Alström-Rapaport; Jeremy B Searle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Sorex araneus; chromosome race; postglacial recolonisation; hybrid zone; sex-biased gene flow; chromosomal evolution; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The common shrew, Sorex araneus, has one of the most variable karyotypes among mammals, displaying numerous chromosomes races throughout its distribution, which can be categorized into different karyotypic groups. The objective of this thesis was to examine the postglacial population history of Fennoscandian common shrews using autosomal microsatellites, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and a Y chromosome specific microsatellite (L8Y). 4. 24. Archaeological Genetics - Approaching Human History through DNA Analysis

    Författare :Evangelia Daskalaki; Anders Götherström; Mattias Jakobsson; Walther Parson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ancient DNA; pyrosequencing; molecular genetics; aDNA; neolithization; evolutionary genetics; mtDNA; viking age; archaeological genetics; genetik; evolutionsgenetik; naturvetenskap; neolitisering; vikingatid; arkeologisk genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : There are a variety of archaeological questions, which are difficult to assess by traditional archaeological methods. Similarly, there are genetic and population genetic questions about human evolution and migration that are difficult to assess by studying modern day genetic variation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Does acetylcholin play a role in mitosis of V79 Chinese hamster cells?

    Författare :Cecilia Söderpalm-Berndes; Stephen M Wolniak; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; Genetik; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The first stages of mitosis are governed by a cascade of phosphorylations brought about by the universal MPF kinase complex. From a regulatory point of view, less is known about late mitotic events. LÄS MER
