  1. 11. Pharmaceutical And Immunollogical Challenge Of Fungal Pathogens

    Författare :Marios Stylianou; Constantin F. Urban; Christophe d' Enfert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mast cells; Candida albicans; yeast to hyphal form; antifungal drugs; repurposed drugs; HTS;

    Sammanfattning : Incidences of fungal infections are on the rise in immunosuppressed people. Predominant causative agents for these mycoses are species of the genus Candida, including Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Candida dublieniensis. Despite a wide range of emerging pathogens, C. albicans remains the leading cause. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Fungal communities of West African ectomycorrhizal woodlands

    Författare :Brendan R. Furneaux; Martin Ryberg; Matthew Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ectomycorrhizal fungi; West Africa; metabarcoding; Sudanian woodlands; community ecology; ethnomycology; edible mushrooms; fungi; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhizal symbiosis is a widespread mutualist relationship between fungi and plants, often trees. It is most well-known in temperate and boreal forests, but also occurs in a variety of tropical ecosystems, including Sudanian savanna woodlands and gallery forests in West Africa. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Setosphaeria turcica, fungal mating and plant defence

    Författare :Thomas Martin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The heterothallic ascomycete Setosphaeria turcica (anamorph: Exserohlium turcicum) causes turcicum leaf blight on maize and sorghum. A survey was undertaken in Uganda to examine the sorghum – S. turcica interaction in terms of disease severity and incidence, overall fungal population structure, and new resistant resources. 4. 14. Systemic fungal diseases in natural plant populations

    Författare :Anders Wennström; Lars Ericson; Peter G. Ayres; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemic diseases; rust; smut; Puccinia minussensis; Lactuca sibirica; Puccinia pulsatillae; Pulsatilla pratensis; lateral growth; abiotic factors; disease transmission; Svampsjukdomar hos växter;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study interactions between systemic fungal diseases and perennial plants. Using the systemic rust Puccinia minussensis on the host plant Lactuca sibirica, and the rust Puccinia pulsatillae on the host plant Pulsatilla pratensis, this thesis focused on: (i) the effects of systemic diseases on their hosts (ii) host and pathogen responses to abiotic factors, (iii) the importance of life history strategies for understanding host-pathogen interactions, and (iv) the evolutionary consequences of living in close associations. 5. 15. Development of molecular techniques for fungal diagnostic research

    Författare :Qing-Yin Zeng; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Xiao-Ru Wang; Aino Nevalainen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Fungi; DNA markers; Aerosols; Detection and quantification; Environmental monitoring; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Fungi are present everywhere in indoor and outdoor environments. Many fungi are toxigenic or pathogenic that may cause various public health concerns. Rapid detection, quantification and characterization of fungi in living and working environments are essential for exposure risk assessment to safe guard public health. LÄS MER
