16. Recruitment ecology and fungal interactions in mycoheterotrophic Ericaceae
Sammanfattning : There are generally two contrasting alternatives to what limits recruitment in plants, namely the availability of seeds (seed limitation) or the quality or quantity of suitable sites (microsite limitation). Dust seeds, the smallest existing seeds, lack or have minimal nutrient reserves. LÄS MER
17. Degradation of wood polysaccharides by fungal glycoside hydrolases
Sammanfattning : The enzymatic degradation of wood polysaccharides such as cellulose and hemicellulose is an important process in nature. In addition, cellulases and hemicellulases can be used in industrial applications. Fuel ethanol can potentially be produced from wood by enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose followed by yeast fermentation of the formed sugars. LÄS MER
18. Biochemical Study and Technical Applications of Fungal Pectinase
Sammanfattning : Pectinases are a group of enzymes produced by bacteria, fungi, higher plants and animals. Pectinases can modify and degrade pectins, a class of heterogeneous and multifunctional polysaccharides present in middle lamellae and primary cell walls of plants. LÄS MER
19. Fungal production and solid state chemistry of eritadenine : an integrated approach to development of an active pharmaceutical ingredient
Sammanfattning : The present thesis demonstrates an integrated approach to the development of a potential active pharmaceutical ingredient, eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound originating from the shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes). The main areas covered in the thesis are a method for quantification of eritadenine, production of eritadenine by submerged cultivation of fungal mycelia and investigation of the influence of process parameters on mycelial growth and production, and finally solid state characterizations of eritadenine. 20. Fungal degradation patterns and toxicity of furfurylated wood
Sammanfattning : The demand for timber products is increasing with global population and affluence. Concerns regarding conventionally used toxic wood preservatives and the deforestation of tropical forests have become more prominent both socially and politically. Wood based products are generally recognised as an environmentally favourable raw material. LÄS MER
