  1. 6. The relation of allergy to otitis media with effusion : Clinical and histochemical studies

    Författare :David S. Hurst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Allergy; eosinophil cationic protein; otitis media with effusion; skin testing; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Otitis media with effusion (OME) is the major form of chronic relapsing inflammatory disease of the middle ear, constitutes the most common diagnosis for chldren under 15 years old and is the major cause of auditory dysfunction in pre-school children. The aim of these studies was to determine the role of allergy in the pathogenesis of middle ear effusion that persists longer than 2 months. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Collagenous Colitis : A Study of Inflammatory Mediators and Growth Factors Based on Segmental Colorectal Perfusion and Immunohistochemistry

    Författare :Yesuf Ahmed Taha; Magnus Thörn; Yngve Raab; Lars Lööf; Mikael Lördal; Curt Tysk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :General; Collagenous; Collagenous colitis; inflammatory mediators; Steroid treatment; Eosinophil Cationic Protein; Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor bFGF ; Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor VEGF ; albumin; ALLMÄNT;

    Sammanfattning : Collagenous colitis (CC) is an inflammatory bowel disease of unknown etiology. It is characterized by watery diarrhoea without blood, normal endoscopic findings but microscopically colonic mucosal inflammation and increased thickness of the subepithelial collagen band, the latter being a pathognomonic sign. Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is expressed in inflammatory tissues. However, NO effects are controversial in inflammation; NO is described as acting in a dose dependent manner and possess both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Nasal reactions and the school environment : Nasal patency and lavage biomarkers in relation to ventilation, cleaning and some indoor air pollutants

    Författare :Robert Wålinder; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden, 2 million persons are exposed to the school environment, and there has been reports on insufficient cleaning, and inadequate ventilation. The nasal mucosa is more easy to study than the lower airways, and rhinitis is common and possibly related to asthma. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Serological and faecal biomarkers in inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Karin Amcoff; Jonas Halfvarson; Marie Carlsson; Hans Törnblom; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Crohn s disease; ulcerative colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; faecal calprotectin; antibodies; eosinophils; ECP; EDN;

    Sammanfattning : The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are relapsing and remitting disorders characterised by chronic inflammation at various sites in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Neither the aetiology nor the pathophysiology is yet fully understood, and there is currently no cure. LÄS MER
