21. Asthma : Respiratory Symptoms, Atopy and Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness in Young Adults in Estonia and Sweden
Sammanfattning : Morbidity of asthma has increased over the world. The reasons for this increase have remained unclear. Studies in children have reported considerable East-West difference in the prevalence of atopy and respiratory allergies. LÄS MER
22. On the cytotoxic and proinflammatory properties of eosinophils
Sammanfattning : Eosinophils are multi-functional leukocytes involved in the pathophysiology of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and inflammatory bowel disease. Participation in some neoplastic diseases and in the host defense against helminths has also been postulated. They are considered both good and bad, protecting or harming the host. LÄS MER
23. Pollinosis in children with special reference to the development of asthma
Sammanfattning : Children with rhinoconjunctivitis and increased bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) are prone to develop asthma later in life. Eosinophil granule proteins in serum are indirect measures of eosinophil activity and regarded as markers of inflammation. LÄS MER
24. Studies on sensitization and atopic disease in infants and children
Sammanfattning : Sensitization to food allergens dominated in infancy and IgE antibodies to inhalant allergens appeared later in a cross-sectional multicentre study of 224 children with atopic disease (113 children aged 0-3 years and 111 children aged 4-15 years). IgE antibodies to peanut, hazelnut, and almond were important in both age groups and even before known ingestion in infancy, suggesting sensitization through breast-milk. LÄS MER
25. Exhaled Breath Condensate in Obstructive Lung Diseases : A Methodological study
Sammanfattning : Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are two common inflammatory airway diseases characterized by airway inflammation and mucus hypersecretion. Prediction of the outcome of these diseases may not be performed and the need for non-invasive diagnostic tools capable of identifying inflammation in asthma and COPD becomes therefore obvious.
