11. Engraftment of Pancreatic Islets in Alternative Transplantation Sites and the Feasibility of in vivo Monitoring of Native and Transplanted Beta-Cell Mass
Sammanfattning : Islet transplantation is a possible curative treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently the liver dominates as implantation site, despite the many challenges encountered at this site.Acute hypoxia in islets transplanted to muscle and omentum, two possible alternative sites, was prevailing. 12. Live and Let Die : Critical regulation of survival in normal and malignant hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells
Sammanfattning : The hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) is characterized by its ability to self-renew and produce all mature blood cells throughout the life of an organism. This is tightly regulated to maintain a balance between survival, proliferation, and differentiation. LÄS MER
13. On endovascular methods for cell transplantation : exploring the selective intra-arterial and trans-vessel wall routes
Sammanfattning : Background: Cell based transplantation methods are a pivotal part of the emerging field of regenerative medicine. These transplantation methods could possible produce curative treatments where, previously, expectations of such feats were low. Diseases for which treatments are evaluated are in such diverging physiological systems as e.g. LÄS MER
14. Identification of Unique Hematopoietic Stem Cell Properties
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are sufficient and required for life long production of all blood cell lineages. Steady state HSCs are largely quiescent and we demonstrate that the kinetics of HSC cell cycling are slower compared to more committed progenitor cells also during expansion and self-renewal ex vivo and in physiological conditions. 15. Principles of scaffold generation for bioengineering of the ovary and uterus: a study focusing on decellularization
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Cancer therapy often result in fertility problems due to inflicted injury to the reproductive organs. Since most women survive cancer, fertility preservation has become an important consideration during cancer therapy. However, options for young women with blood-related cancers are missing. LÄS MER
