  1. 36. Persistent organic pollutants and bone tissue : studies in wild and experimental animals

    Författare :Rebecca Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bone; POPs; dioxin; DDT; PCB; pQCT; biomechanics; ALP; CTX;

    Sammanfattning : Since the mid 1900s, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of osteoporotic-related fractures in the industrialised world. The reason for this is unknown, but there could be a link between the increased use and production of chemicals and effects on bone. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Mechanisms and Therapeutic Interventions of Instant Blood-Mediated Inflammatory Reaction (IBMIR)

    Författare :Helena Johansson; Bo Nilsson; Olle Korsgren; Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl; Tomas Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunology; Diabetes; Islet transplantation; Islets of Langerhans; Coagulation activation; Complement activation; IBMIR; Tissue factor; Low molecular weight dextran sulfate; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intraportal transplantation of isolated islets of Langerhans is a procedure approaching clinical acceptance as a treatment for patients with type I diabetes mellitus. One major problem with this treatment is that large amounts of cells are lost at the time of infusion into the portal vein, resulting in a low level of engraftment of the islets. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Linking exposure pathways to internal concentrations of brominated flame retardants in Swedish mothers and their toddlers

    Författare :Leena Sahlström; Cynthia A. de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Urs Berger; Jochen Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BFR; PBDE; HBCD; EBFR; human exposure; serum; feces; house dust; food; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have been used in a variety of consumer products to enhance their fire safety. This has resulted in exposure of the environment, wildlife and humans causing risks of endocrine disruption. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Non-caloric regulation of food intake

    Författare :Anica Klockars; Dan Larhammar; Michael Williams; Robert Fredriksson; Karolina Skibicka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Food intake is shaped by environmental, endocrine, metabolic, and reward-related signals. A change in appetite is an outcome of integration of the relevant external and internal stimuli. While the main purpose of eating is to reverse a negative energy balance, mechanisms protecting homeostasis change appetite for other reasons. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Computational methods for analyzing dioxin-like compounds and identifying potential aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligands : multivariate studies based on human and rodent in vitro data

    Författare :Malin Larsson; Patrik Andersson; Anna Linusson; Mats Tysklind; Scott Boyer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dioxin-like compounds; multivariate analysis; toxic equivalency factor; quantitative structure-activity relationship; descriptors; virtual screening; in vitro; species variation; aryl hydrocarbon receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are omnipresent and persistent environmental pollutants. In particular, 29 congeners are of special concern, and these are usually referred to as dioxin-like compounds (DLCs). LÄS MER
