16. Environmental pollutants and the reproductive system in birds : Developmental effects of estrogenic compounds
Sammanfattning : A number of environmental pollutants have been shown to mimick the action of the female sex hormone estrogen and are, therefore, suspected to be responsible for reproductive abnormalities seen in wildlife. Test systems which can be used in hazard and risk assessment of chemicals with estrogenic effects are consequently needed. LÄS MER
17. Assessing environmental and contaminant stressors in a benthic amphipod
Sammanfattning : Organisms in the aquatic environment encounter numerous stressors throughout their lifespan. Some of them are biotic such as food availability, predators and parasites. Others are abiotic and include shifting salinity and temperature change among others. LÄS MER
18. Roles of ERα and ERβ in Normal and Disrupted Sex Differentiation in Japanese Quail
Sammanfattning : Exposure to xenoestrogens during development has been shown to impair sexual differentiation in various species. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate the respective roles of the two estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ in normal and disrupted differentiation of sex organs and copulatory behavior in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). 19. Phthalates: A Full Chain Story : Connecting phthalate sources, indoor dust, human intake, and airway symptoms in children
Sammanfattning : Phthalates are widely used in a large number of consumer goods and building materials from which they can leach and contaminate the environment such as indoor dust and air. It is unclear how phthalate sources in our homes and indoor dust contribute to human intake and airway symptoms in children. LÄS MER
20. Endocrine disrupting compounds in effluent waters : Chemical analysis to evaluate exposure of fish
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if endocrine disruption related to the release of estrogenic and/or androgenic substances via sewage treatment plant and pulp mill effluents is significant in Swedish waters. Chemical analysis of bile fluid in combination with measurement of biomarkers was used for the evaluation of internal exposure and effects in fish. LÄS MER
