  1. 1. Identification of protease inhibitors against Flaviviruses and Coronaviruses

    Författare :Dario Akaberi; Åke Lundkvist; Johan Lennerstrand; Josef D. Järhult; Ujjwal Neogi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antiviral research; protease inhibitors; flaviviruses; coronaviruses; ZIKV; TBEV; SARS-CoV-2;

    Sammanfattning : Vector-borne flaviviruses and coronaviruses of zoonotic origins are important human pathogens and represent a serious threat to public health worldwide. Flaviviruses can be found on all continents, apart from Antarctica, where they are transmitted by arthropod vectors causing millions of infections every year. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular characterization and detection of infectious bronchitis virus

    Författare :hussain Shahid Abro; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular characterization and detection of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), an important pathogen that causes heavy losses in the poultry populations worldwide. The aim of the research was to better understand the molecular characteristics of the virus and to investigate the factors behind the continuous emergence of new genetic variants and the occurrence of outbreaks. 3. 3. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir

    Författare :Michelle Wille; Jonas Waldenström; Timm Harder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-infections; Ecology; Epidemiology; Evolution; Host-Parasite Interactions; Immunity; Influenza A Virus; Mallard; Phylogeny; Virology; Waterfowl; Wild Birds; Wildlife Disease; Zoonotisk ekologi; Zoonotic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular epidemiology of acute respiratory virus infections

    Författare :Robert Dyrdak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Acute respiratory virus infections are very common but can also cause severe disease. In my thesis, I have analysed the molecular epidemiology of acute respiratory virus infections caused by enterovirus D68 and coronaviruses. In Paper I, we used real-time PCR and Sanger sequencing to analyse the outbreak of enterovirus D68 in Stockholm in 2016. LÄS MER

  5. 5. SARS coronavirus : the role of accessory proteins and nitric oxide in the replication cycle

    Författare :Sara Åkerström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) caused the first pandemic of the 21st century. The etiological agent was identified as a novel coronavirus. Until then, human coronaviruses (HCoVs) had only been known to cause the common cold . Data indicated that the virus originated from animals. LÄS MER
