  1. 1. Scattering of seismic waves in random velocity models : Finite difference simulation

    Författare :Lena Frenje; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The small-scale heterogeneities within the Earth's crust and the effect these heterogeneities have on seismic waves have gained increasing interest in the last 15 years. One approach to study seismic wave scattering is through numerical simulations in random media. LÄS MER

    Författare :Fei Huang; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Ari Tryggvason; Andy Chadwick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CO2 storage; 3D Time-lapse 4D ; Reservoir characterization; Seismic simulation; Spectral decomposition; Wavelet phase; Tuning frequency; Thin-layer thickness; Seismic monitoring; Seismic processing; Quantitative interpretation; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : 3D time-lapse seismics, also known as 4D seismics, have great potential for monitoring the migration of CO2 at underground storage sites. This thesis focuses on time-lapse analysis of 3D seismic reflection data acquired at the Ketzin CO2 geological storage site in order to improve understanding of the reservoir and how CO2 migrates within it. 3. 3. Prediction of Strong Ground Motion and Hazard Uncertainties

    Författare :Behrooz Tavakoli; Ota Kulhanek; Dieter Mayer-Rosa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Disaggregation; Ground motion; Monte Carlo simulation; Seismic hazard; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to provide a detailed description of recent methods and scientific basis for characterizing earthquake sources within a certain region with distinct tectonic environments. The focus will be on those characteristics that are most significant to the ground-shaking hazard and on how we can incorporate our current knowledge into hazard analyses for engineering design purposes. 4. 4. Caving mechanisms for a non-daylighting orebody

    Författare :Sraj Umar Banda; Jonny Sjöberg; Björn Nilsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sublevel caving; numerical analysis; laser scanning; seismic data; large-scale structure; rock mass characterization; failure mechanism; discontinuum modeling; continuum modeling; caving analysis; voronoi modeling; bonded block model; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The sublevel caving mining method is a mass production method with potentially very low operational costs. The success of this method is dependent on, among other factors, the cavability of the orebody and the overlying rock mass. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Feature Extraction for Low-Frequency Signal Classification

    Författare :José Chilo; Thomas Lindblad; Christian Bohm; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; infrasound; seismic signals; feature extraction; wavelets; fingerprints; mining; multimodal data space; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; Electronics;

    Sammanfattning : The development of the International Monitoring System (IMS) for the verification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) has led to a rapid revival of interest in infrasound. Furthermore, the installation of low-frequency sensors at seismic sites has increased in recent years, providing researchers with large and heterogeneous data-sets in near real-time. LÄS MER
