  1. 21. Ultra-deep characterization of viral quasispecies in HIV infection

    Författare :Charlotte Hedskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 has the ability to rapidly diversify and adapt to changes in its environment, such as evading the host immune response, altering cell tropism, and developing resistance to antiretroviral drugs. Minority HIV-1 variants have been shown to be of clinical significance, especially those with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) drug resistance mutations or determinants of CXCR4 phenotype (X4-virus). 2. 22. Wnt-5a signaling in breast cancer metastasis

    Författare :Annette Säfholm; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; General pathology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; breast cancer; Wnt-5a; migration; pathological anatomy; metastasis; signal transduction; peptides; Cytology; cancerology; oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting women in the Western world. Today, anticancer treatment can control primary breast tumors, but treatment and prevention of metastatic disease still represents a major challenge in the management of breast cancer patients. 3. 23. Wnt/β-Catenin Signalling in Parathyroid Tumours

    Författare :Peyman Björklund; Gunnar Westin; Göran Åkerström; Tommy Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; Hyperparathyroidism; β-catenin; Mutation; Human parathyroid cell line; LRP5; Alternative splicing; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) due to parathyroid tumours with hypersecretion of parathyroid hormone and hypercalcaemia is a common disease with incompletely understood etiology affecting more than 1 % of the population, primarily postmenopausal women. In secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT), parathyroid tumours develop in response to calcium and vitamin D deficiency generally in patients with uraemia. LÄS MER

  4. 24. HIV-1 phenotype and genetic variation in vertical transmission

    Författare :Peter Clevestig; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV; co-receptor use; diversity; clade; sequon.;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 vertical transmission is increasing worldwide despite that successful strategies are available. Reduction of vertical transmission has been established by antiretroviral prophylaxis and elective Caesarian section, but this has been limited to the developed countries. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Activation of retrovirus spikes for membrane fusion

    Författare :Robin Löving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Retroviruses are enveloped viruses that use reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into DNA which is integrated into the host DNA. They enter into the cell by a membrane fusion process. In this the viral membrane fuses with that of the cell so that the internal capsid of the virus with the genome can be released into the cell cytoplasm. LÄS MER
