Sammanfattning : Ten years after his death, Iannis Xenakis (1922–2001) is generally acknowledged as one of the most influential composers of the recently past century, working in all genres of modern music – from acoustic to electronic, from strings to percussion, from solo pieces to orchestral works. He is also renowned for his spectacular audiovisual installations – from the Philips Pavilion at the 1958 World Exposition in Brussels, to the Diatope de Beaubourg conceived for the inauguration of the Centre Pompidou in 1978 – as well as for his architectural projects, both on a cosmic and a more quotidian scale. This study explores the characterization of the Virgin in the poetic works of Romanos the Melodist (ca. 490–560), the great composer of the so-called kontakion.
