  1. 6. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability

    Författare :Nils Gunnar Arvidson; Anders Larsson; Arvi Larsen; Øystein Førre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; acute phase markers; circadian rhythm; disability; disease activity; glucocorticoids; monocyte activation; rheumatoid arthritis; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening. 2. 7. The role of HMG-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) and statin medication in the Central Nervous System : Cognitive Functions, Metabolism, Feeding and Sleep Behaviour

    Författare :Ahmed Alsehli; Helgi B. Schiöth; Michael J. Williams; Heinrich Dircksen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Statin; cardiovascular disease; HMGCR; PCSK9; sleep; insomnia; circadian; Chronotype; feeding;

    Sammanfattning : Millions of people are currently on statin medications (HMGCR inhibitors) to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Despite considerable central nervous system expression, little is known about HMGCR function in the brain. LÄS MER

  3. 8. En vårdande ljusmiljö inom intensivvård : Patienters upplevelser och effekter av en cyklisk belysningsintervention

    Författare :Marie Engwall; Karin Samuelson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; care environment; circadian rhythm; health; intensive and critical care; lighting; sleep; recovery; wellbeing; Människan i vården; Människan i vården;

    Sammanfattning : Det övergripande syftet med avhandlingen var att beskriva och undersöka patienters - vårdade inom intensivvård - upplevelser och effekter av en cyklisk belysningsintervention utifrån hälsa, välbefinnande och återhämtning.Metod: En intervention bestående av ett automatiskt styrt belysningssystem var installerat på ett intensivvårdsrum. 4. 9. Exposure to xenobiotic chemicals disrupts metabolism, rhythmicity and cell proliferation in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Hao Cao; Helgi B. Schiöth; Michael J. Williams; Jan Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; xenobiotics; metabolism; insulin signalling; circadian rhythm; carcinogen; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Most species are constantly exposed to xenobiotic chemicals through multiple routes. Among all categories of xenobiotics, phthalates and bisphenols are two of the most widely used plasticizers and can be found in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials, medical devices and even drinking water. 5. 10. A behavioural investigation into Eristalis tenax : Pursuit, approach estimation, locomotor activity and rearing

    Författare :Malin Thyselius; Karin Nordström; Anna Rostedt Punga; Yuri Ogawa; Emily Baird; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eristalis tenax; Insect rearing; Hoverflies; Pollinators; Circadian rhythm; Target detection; Motion vision; Pursuit; LAMS; Flight arena;

    Sammanfattning : Hoverflies are suggested to be the 2nd most important pollinator group after bees and bumblebees, and with the changing climate and dwindling numbers of pollinators it might never have been more important understanding our pollinators. Given the hoverflies’ small brains, beautiful aerial acrobatics, good temporal resolution, but limited spatial resolution, these flies make interesting study animals for flight behaviour and vision research.
