16. Platelet Inhibition, Revascularization, and Risk Prediction in Non-ST-elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and ischemic heart disease is the most common manifestation. Despite improved outcomes during the last decades, patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are still at substantial risk of recurrent ischemic events and mortality. LÄS MER
17. Post-Cardiac Arrest Care : Therapeutic Hypothermia, Patient Outcomes and Relatives’ Experiences
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to study post-resuscitation care of cardiac arrest (CA) patients with a focus on therapeutic hypothermia treatment, outcomes up to six months post-CA and relatives’ experiences during the hospital stay.In Paper I, the aim was to asses effectiveness of hypothermia treatment with cold, 4°C, intravenous crystalloid infusion combined with ice packs. 18. Microvesicle signaling in cardiovascular biology under normal and pathobiological conditions
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis, a chronic pathology directly related to the circulatory system, develops due to an interplay between several molecular events. Atherosclerotic plaque build-up can lead to a reduction in arterial blood flow and finally, myocardial infarction (MI). LÄS MER
19. Very preterm birth and fetal growth restriction in adolescence - Cardiovascular and renal aspects
Sammanfattning : This thesis applied magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate to what extent very preterm birth due to early onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) impacts the cardiovascular system and kidneys in adolescence. The thesis further investigated whether FGR exacerbates the organ-specific effects of very preterm birth. LÄS MER
20. Electrical remodeling in arial fibrillation - assessment using surface electrocardiograms, prognostic implications and potential reversal
Sammanfattning : The fibrillatory rate of the surface ECG during atrial fibrillation (AF) has been suggested for quantification of the individual atrial remodeling, to monitor interventions and to predict the response to different therapies. In this dissertation, the relation between fibrillatory rate of the surface ECG and (1) clinical and echocardiographic variables, (2) the outcome of cardioversion, (3) circulating markers of inflammation and hemostasis, (4) the risk of left atrial thrombus formation, (5) the risk of stroke, and (6) the effects of candesartan on the fibrillatory rate were investigated in human persistent atrial fibrillation (AF).
