  1. 1. Intrarenal oxygen homeostasis in acute and chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Oskar Nensén; Fredrik Palm; Börje Haraldsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; acute kidney injury; oxygen; kidney disease; renal physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Renal hypoxia has been recognized as a common feature of acute and chronic kidney injury arising from varying etiologies. It has also been proposed to provide a driving mechanism for the transition from acute to chronic kidney disease (CKD). LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease

    Författare :Carla Carvalho; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Malou Friederich; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oxygen; Kidney mitochondria; Hypoxia-inducible factors; Prolyl hydroxylase; von Hippel-Lindau; Diabetes; Aging; Kidney; Sodium; RAAS; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of Myocardial Function in Chronic Kidney Disease : A Colour Tissue Velocity Imaging Study

    Författare :Shirley Hayashi; Lars-Åke Brodin; Svend Aakhus; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiac; Kidney; Tissue; Velocity; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), overhydration, uremic toxins and left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony are factors that may lead to LV dysfunction and conduction abnormalities and thus contribute to the high cardiac mortality. Colour tissue velocity imaging (TVI) allows a detailed quantitative analysis of cardiac function in CKD patients, opening new possibilities to evaluate longitudinal myocardial motion, rapid isovolumetric events, LV filling pressure and LV synchronicity. 4. 4. Macula Densa Derived Nitric Oxide and Kidney Function

    Författare :Anna Ollerstam; Pontus Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Nitric oxide; rats; kidney; macula densa cells; tubuloglomerular feedback; renin; angiotensin II; blood pressure; hypertension; renal blood flow; neuronal nirtic oxide synthase; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is the major organ regulating the extracellular fluid volume and thereby the arterial blood pressure. The neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the kidney is predominantly located in the macula densa cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. High-resolution imaging of kidney tissue samples

    Författare :David Unnersjö-Jess; Hans Blom; Lena Scott; Hjalmar Brismar; Peter Hansell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Super Resolution Microscopy; Kidney; Imaging; Fluorescence; Kidney development; Calcium; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the human body, filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. Kidney disease is one of the fastest growing causes of death in the modern world, and this motivates extensive research for better understanding the function of the kidney in health and disease.
