  1. 21. Impacts of pine and eucalyptus plantations on carbon and nutrients stocks and fluxes in miombo forests ecosystems

    Författare :Benard Guedes; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge of how commercial pine and eucalyptus plantations affect soil carbon and nutrient status is important in Mozambique, where incentives are available to increase the area of forest plantations and also to conserve mature miombo forests. Tree species growing on similar sites may affect ecosystem carbon differently if they allocate carbon to aboveground and belowground parts at different rates. LÄS MER

  2. 22. New Materials in Environmental Catalysis

    Författare :Magnus Skoglundh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cobalt; Copper; Xylene oxidation; Platinum; Carbon monoxide oxidation; exhaust gas catalysis; Rhodium; Palladium; Nitric oxide reduction; perovskites;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents new approaches to the control of emissions within the field of environmental catalysis. Three catalytic systems; bimetallic catalysts, perovskites and promoted catalysts have been prepared and evaluated for complete oxidation of volatile organic compounds and for simultaneous conversion of CO, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. 3. 23. Weaned Upon A Time : Studies of the Infant Diet in Prehistory

    Författare :Rachel Howcroft; Kerstin Lidén; Gunilla Eriksson; Tamsin O'Connell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Infant Feeding; Breastfeeding; Weaning; Milk; Diet; Fertility; Neolithic; Agriculture; Hunter-Gatherer; Bronze Age; Iron Age; Prehistory; Carbon and Nitrogen Stable Isotope Ratios; Bone; Dentine; Archaeological Science; laborativ arkeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with how prehistoric infants were fed in different physical and cultural environments, and in particular what impact the economic, social, and epidemiological changes associated with the development of agriculture had on infant feeding practices. In order to examine these effects, stable isotope ratio analysis has been used to assess the duration of breastfeeding and weaning in a variety of prehistoric contexts. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Biomass and Nutrient Status of Benthic Algae in Lakes

    Författare :Maria Kahlert; Alan Steinman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; benthic algae; patchiness; C:N:P ratio; nutrient recycling; grazer; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : For a complete picture of the lake ecosystem, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms regulating biomass and nutrient status (nutrient limitation, optimal supply, or surplus) of benthic algae, which are important primary producers and a food resource for grazers. This thesis gives an overview of the natural variation of benthic algae at different scales of space and time and on different substrates, and unravels some of the underlying factors. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Consequences of consumer-resource stoichiometric imbalance in planktonic food webs

    Författare :Junwen Guo; Mehdi Cherif; Tanguy Daufresne; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; environmental science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Resource imbalance between consumers and their resources can come from inadequate resource quantity or quality. The ecological stoichiometry theory focuses on understanding the consequences of imbalance in elemental composition.  In this thesis, I have used both resource quality (e.g. LÄS MER
