21. Phagocytic-receptor signaling in human neutrophils
Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte is one of the most mobile cells in the body and through a number of functions represents the first line of defense against invading pathogens. Adhesion and chemotactic receptors on the cell surface work together through modulation of the cytoskeleton, thereby enabling cell movement. LÄS MER
22. Calcium signaling : molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences
Sammanfattning : Cells exploit calcium (Ca2+) signaling to transmit information. In a multicellular organism, each cell must be able recognize, process, and respond to information received from the surrounding environment. In this thesis I investigate molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences of Ca2+ signaling. LÄS MER
23. Wnt-5a signaling in breast cancer metastasis
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting women in the Western world. Today, anticancer treatment can control primary breast tumors, but treatment and prevention of metastatic disease still represents a major challenge in the management of breast cancer patients. 24. Proinsulin C-peptide : membrane interactions and intracellular signaling
Sammanfattning : In the past decade, new evidence has emerged of a physiological role for C-peptide. C-peptide replacement improves renal and nerve function and augments regional blood flow in type I diabetic patients. LÄS MER
25. Activity-regulated retinoic acid signaling in olfactory sensory neurons
Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies included in the thesis is to better understand the interplay between neuronal activity-dependent gene regulation and the bioactive vitamin A metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) during postnatal development, refinement and maintenance of precise neuronal connectivity using the olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of genetically modified mice as a model. We show that:Inhibition of RA receptor (RAR)-mediated transcription in OSNs reduces expression of the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel, which is required for odorant receptor (OR)-mediated stimulus transduction.
