  1. 21. Phagocytic-receptor signaling in human neutrophils

    Författare :Ragnhild Löfgren; Matthias P. Wymann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte is one of the most mobile cells in the body and through a number of functions represents the first line of defense against invading pathogens. Adhesion and chemotactic receptors on the cell surface work together through modulation of the cytoskeleton, thereby enabling cell movement. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Calcium signaling : molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences

    Författare :Seth Malmersjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cells exploit calcium (Ca2+) signaling to transmit information. In a multicellular organism, each cell must be able recognize, process, and respond to information received from the surrounding environment. In this thesis I investigate molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences of Ca2+ signaling. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Wnt-5a signaling in breast cancer metastasis

    Författare :Annette Säfholm; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; General pathology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; breast cancer; Wnt-5a; migration; pathological anatomy; metastasis; signal transduction; peptides; Cytology; cancerology; oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting women in the Western world. Today, anticancer treatment can control primary breast tumors, but treatment and prevention of metastatic disease still represents a major challenge in the management of breast cancer patients. 4. 24. Proinsulin C-peptide : membrane interactions and intracellular signaling

    Författare :Zhihui Zhong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human renal tubular cell; intracellular signal transduction; ERK1 2; JNK; Na ; K -A TPase; G-protein coupled receptor.;

    Sammanfattning : In the past decade, new evidence has emerged of a physiological role for C-peptide. C-peptide replacement improves renal and nerve function and augments regional blood flow in type I diabetic patients. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Activity-regulated retinoic acid signaling in olfactory sensory neurons

    Författare :Hande Login; Staffan Bohm; Mattias Alenius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse olfactory system; RA; neuronal activity; CNG; Cyp26B1; BACE1; Kirrel-2; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies included in the thesis is to better understand the interplay between neuronal activity-dependent gene regulation and the bioactive vitamin A metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) during postnatal development, refinement and maintenance of precise neuronal connectivity using the olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of genetically modified mice as a model. We show that:Inhibition of RA receptor (RAR)-mediated transcription in OSNs reduces expression of the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel, which is required for odorant receptor (OR)-mediated stimulus transduction.
