  1. 1. Mechanisms of sensory neuron diversification during development and in the adult Drosophila : How to make a difference

    Författare :Liza Alkhori; Mattias Alenius; David Engblom; Mattias Mannervik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The nervous system contains a vast number of neurons and displays a great diversity in cell types and classes. Even though this has been known for a long time, the exact mechanism of cell specification is still poorly understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms of Olfactory sensory neuron class maintenance in Drosophila : It is all about design and equilibrium

    Författare :Shadi Jafari; Mattias Alenius; Stefan Thor; David Engblom; Bassem Hassan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : How the cellular diversity of our body is generated and maintained is still a great mystery regardless of the wealth of research that has been done on this issue. The greatest complexity is found in the nervous system that contains a vast number of neurons and displays a great diversity in cell types and classes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Specification of unique neuronal sub-types by integration of positional and temporal cues

    Författare :Daniel Karlsson; Stefan Thor; Mattias Alenius; Jeremy S. Dasen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The nervous system contains vast numbers of neuronal sub-types, generated at specific time points, in the proper location, and in proper numbers. One of the fundamental issues in neurobiology is to understand the molecular genetic mechanisms that underlie the generation of this daunting neuronal diversity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Activity-regulated retinoic acid signaling in olfactory sensory neurons

    Författare :Hande Login; Staffan Bohm; Mattias Alenius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse olfactory system; RA; neuronal activity; CNG; Cyp26B1; BACE1; Kirrel-2; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies included in the thesis is to better understand the interplay between neuronal activity-dependent gene regulation and the bioactive vitamin A metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) during postnatal development, refinement and maintenance of precise neuronal connectivity using the olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of genetically modified mice as a model. We show that:Inhibition of RA receptor (RAR)-mediated transcription in OSNs reduces expression of the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel, which is required for odorant receptor (OR)-mediated stimulus transduction. 5. 5. Genetic mechanisms controlling cell specification and cell numbers in the Drosophila CNS

    Författare :Carina Ulvklo; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Mattias Alenius; Ruth Palmer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A central theme in developmental neurobiology pertains to how the  diversity of different cell types is generated. In addition, it is equally important to understand how the specific numbers of each cell type is regulated. LÄS MER
