  1. 1. Telomeres and the brain : an investigation into the relationships of leukocyte telomere length with functional and structural attributes of the brain

    Författare :Mikael Wikgren; Karl-Fredrik Norrback; Rolf Adolfsson; Göran Roos; Thomas Karlsson; Brenda Penninx; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APOE; aging; atrophy; brain; cognition; cortisol; depression; hippocampus; HPA axis; MRI; stress; telomere length; white matter hyper-intensities.;

    Sammanfattning : Telomeres are the outermost parts of linear chromosomes. They consist of tandemly repeated non-coding short nucleotide sequences (TTAGGG in all vertebrates), in humans spanning over the last 2 to 15 kilobase pairs of the chromosome. Due to the end-replication problem, telomeres shorten with each cellular division. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clusterin in brain and cerebrospinal fluidin Alzheimer s disease

    Författare :Anna-Maria Nilselid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease; clusterin; apolipoprotein J; SP-40; brain tissue; cerebrospinal fluid; glycosylation; biomarker; enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay;

    Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein clusterin is suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer¡¦s disease (AD). At the start of these studies, results had indicated that clusterin was elevated in AD brain, compared with controls. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The postsynaptic protein neurogranin: a new item in the Alzheimer’s disease biomarker toolbox

    Författare :Hlin Kvartsberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CSF; brain tissue; Alzheimer s disease; biomarker; neurogranin;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia affecting more than 50 million people worldwide today and is characterised by progressive cognitive decline. One of the earliest events in AD, which is also closely related to neuronal loss and the degree of dementia, is synaptic degeneration. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Advances for Biomarker Discovery in Neuroproteomics using Mass Spectrometry : From Method Development to Clinical Application

    Författare :Marcus O.D. Sjödin; Magnus Wetterhall; Jonas Bergquist; Dominic M. Desiderio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass Spectrometry; Biomarker; Proteomics; Central Nervous System; Cerebrospinal Fluid; Traumatic Brain Injury; Cloud-Point Extraction; Neuroproteomics; Relative Quantification; Spinal Cord Stimulation; Neuropathic Pain; Analytical Chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins offer a prominent group of compounds which may be ubiquitously affected in disease and used as biomarkers for early diagnosis, assessing treatment or drug development. Clinical proteomics aim to screen for protein biomarkers by a comprehensive analysis of all proteins expressed in a biological matrix during a certain pathology. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biomarkers In Brain Tumors With Focus On Glioblastoma

    Författare :Malgorzata Lysiak; Peter Söderkvist; Annika Malmström; Olle Stål; Mattias Belting; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma; MGMT; Biomarker; Sex differences; Androgen receptor; Loss of chromosome Y;

    Sammanfattning : The primary brain tumors, gliomas, are not very common but they are deadly. Each year in Sweden around 500 patients will be diagnosed with a glioma and unfortunately most of them will have the most aggressive type, glioblastoma (GBM). Median survival, even if treated, is poor (14-17 months). LÄS MER
