21. Post-Glacial History of Sea-Level and Environmental Change in the Southern Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. LÄS MER
22. Mineralisation rates of natural organic matter in surface sediments affected by physical forces
23. Evolution of streamlined genomes in ultra-small aquatic bacteria
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the evolutionary processes of streamlined genomes from aquatic bacteria adapting to different salinities, using two groups of ultra-small aquatic bacteria (LD12 Alphaproteobacteria and acI Actinobacteria). Due to difficulties in obtaining pure cultures of these bacteria, culture-free approaches (single-cell genomics and metagenomics) were used to construct and compare genomes, and to study the mechanisms and selective forces of adaptation to freshwater, brackish, and marine ecosystems. 24. Reproductive traits in euryhaline gobies: insights into physiology, adaptations and biological invasions
Sammanfattning : Organisms are adapted to reproduce in their specific environment by a range of different traits. For many animals, reproduction is tied to specific conditions, that trigger or enable the reproductive events. This thesis deals with traits associated with reproduction, their functions and interactions with the environment. LÄS MER
25. Migratory behaviour of Baltic salmon (Salmo salar L.) : adaptive significance of annual cycles
Sammanfattning : This thesis evaluates the adaptive significance of annual cycles on the migratory behaviour of Baltic salmon (Salmo salar L.). The studies have included field experiments as well as laboratory studies gf maturity and migratory behaviour patterns of smolts and postsmolts mainly from the Angerman river population. LÄS MER
