26. Adapt, Survive or Die - Metabolic Imbalances and the Enteric Nervous System
Sammanfattning : Abstract: In this thesis the questions “do enteric neurons adapt to survive in conditions of obesity/type 2-diabetes (T2D) related metabolic imbalances? Or do they die?” are asked. Obese and T2D patients have high rates of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. LÄS MER
27. Methods to Reduce Liver Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury
Sammanfattning : Introduction: During the last two decades, liver surgery has expanded enormously, partly due to improved surgical equipment and techniques as well as new and more powerful chemotherapy agents. As the liver is a very well-vascularized organ, there is an inherent risk of bleeding during liver resection. LÄS MER
28. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion
Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2). 29. Characterizing and modulating the effects of ionizing radiation to the juvenile hippocampus
Sammanfattning : Survival rates after childhood cancer treatment have improved, leading to a growing population of survivors. Radiotherapy is an important tool for curing cancer in the brain. Unfortunately, radiotherapy is associated with late side effects e.g. LÄS MER
30. On the induction and function of Foxp3+ regulatory T cells
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on three original papers with the overall aim to study the mechanisms of induction and function of Foxp3+CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells. Regulatory T cells induce down-modulation of costimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86 on dendritic cells in vitro. LÄS MER
