  1. 6. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development

    Författare :Stefan R Hansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiskers; lateral geniculate; infraorbital nerve; neural crest; merkel; somatosensory cortex; Key wordscitalopram; thalamus; visual cortex; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 2. 7. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor : expression patterns, neuronal transport, regulation, effects, and receptor dependence

    Författare :Andreas C Tomac; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor GDNF ; neurturin NTN ; persephin PSP ; c Ret proto oncogene Ret ; GPI-linked receptors for the GDNF ligand family GFRas ; transforming growth factor-B TGFB ; Parkinson s disease PD ; dopaminergic DA neurons;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The mammalian nervous system depends upon trophic proteins for survival, growth and adult maintenance. These trophic factors have also been considered as potential therapeutic agents for treating human neurodegenerative disorders. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Molecular studies on Hirschsprung disease and 'Ondine's curse'

    Författare :Pär-Johan Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hirschsprung disease; Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome; neurocristopathy; mutation analysis; RET; CDNF; EDNRB; EDN-3; EDN-I;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on molecular studies of two diseases that arise from dysfunction of, defective migration or inappropriate apoptosis of neural crest derived cells: Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) and "Ondine's curse" (congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, CCHS). The neural crest (NC) is a condensation of pluripotent cells of ectodermal origin. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Peripheral nerve glia as multipotent progenitors in craniofacial development

    Författare :Maryam Khatibi Shahidi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Craniofacial development is complex. Numerous populations of progenitor cells coordinate activities to produce an array of highly integrated tissues inside the developing head. However, it is not clear how some key multipotent progenitors continue to exist in late developing head compartments. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Fate selection in the neural crest lineage and its regulation

    Författare :Natalia Akkuratova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The neural crest is a transient embryonic progenitor cell population that generates a diverse array of cell and tissue types, including cartilage, bone, teeth, soft connective and adipose tissues, peripheral sensory and autonomic neurons, myelinating and non-myelinating Schwann cells, melanocytes, cardiac outflow tract, adrenal medulla and other derivatives. Neural crest cells start as neuroepithelial cells forming at the border of neural and non-neural ectoderm in a vertebrate embryo. LÄS MER
