1. Long acting local anaesthetics - a study in rats
Sammanfattning : Local anaesthetics provide excellent pain relief after central and peripheral nerve blocks. However, in many clinical situations there is an insufficient duration of action to allow effective treatment of long-term pain with single injection techniques. This problem became the focus of the present studies. LÄS MER
2. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development
Sammanfattning : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 3. Variations in the regulation of pain genes after nerve injury : with focus on sodium channels
Sammanfattning : Chronic neuropathic pain is a burdensome clinical condition that causes major suffering for countless of individuals worldwide. It is characterized by a hyperreactive nervous system with hyperexcitable neurons that fire in the absence of stimuli or at mild stimuli, causing pain. LÄS MER
4. Heritability and sex differences in experimental neuropathic pain with special emphasis on the role of the major histocompatibility complex
Sammanfattning : Neuropathic pain caused by injury to the nervous system is a difficult clinical problem and a large proportion of patients experience no or only partial relief from existing treatments. Pain sensitivity and the development of neuropathic pain are complex biological and physiological entities that are known to be affected by genetics and sex. LÄS MER
5. Pain-related sodium channels in sensory neurons : gene expression during development and after injury
Sammanfattning : Pain that goes on over years as a result of nerve damage is an affliction which disables millions of people worldwide. Chronic injury-induced pain can become severely debilitating and extremely difficult to treat. LÄS MER
