  1. 21. Diastereomeric Effects in DNA Binding – Biological and Biophysical Studies on Ruthenium Complexes

    Författare :Anna Mårtensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neighbor interaction; spectroscopy; diastereomeric; kinetics; antimicrobial activity; ruthenium; calorimetry; intercalation; DNA; enantiomer;

    Sammanfattning : Organic molecules, such as glucose and amino acids, are most often chiral. This means that their mirror-images are different, in the same way a left and a right hand are different from each other. For example, the DNA double helix in its standard form twists like a right-handed screw. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Antibacterial effects of nitrite in urine

    Författare :Stefan Carlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nitrite; nitrate; nitric oxide; urinary tract infection; catheter-associated urinary tract infection; antimicrobial; Escherichia coli.;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI`s) are among the most common conditions causing individuals to seek medical care. In addition, catheter-associated infections account for most of the hospital-acquired UTI´s and is also a major source of resistant nosocomial pathogens. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Production, Purification and Characterization of Antimicrobial Biomolecules from Potential Probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria

    Författare :Sahar Deraz; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lactobacillus; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; bacteriocin purification.; inhibitory activity; Bacteriocin; antimicrobial protein;

    Sammanfattning : Development and optimization of the production of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and their attendant 'natural' inhibitors as biopreservatives to control undesirable bacteria currently remains a primary focus of several laboratories involved in research concerning food safety and quality. Strategies utilized to study incorporation of biopreservatives into food include either direct use of LAB-strains or use of a biopreservative preparation in the form of previously fermented product or use of semipurified, purified, or chemically synthesized bacteriocins. 4. 24. Antimicrobial peptides in innate immunity : interactions with antibiotics and effects of post-translational modifications

    Författare :Salma Al Adwani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are important innate immunity factors contributing to the clearance of invading pathogens and immunomodulating immune responses. In this thesis, the focus is on AMPs of the cathelicidin family, i.e. the human LL-37 and the canine K9CATH. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Antimicrobial materials from cellulose using environmentally friendly techniques

    Författare :Anna Ottenhall; Monica Ek; Josefin Illergård; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibacterial; antifungal; cellulosic; mold; bacteria; biobased; bio-based; renewable; insulation; packaging; water treatment; water purification; paper filter; paper; membrane; Antibakteriell; fungicid; mögel; antimögel; pappersfilter; vattenrening; membran; papper; bakterier; cellulosa; förpackning; isolering; förnyelsebar; biobaserade; nya material; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : The transition to a more biobased society introduces both new opportunities and new challenges as we replace nonrenewable materials with renewable alternatives. One important challenge will be to control microbial growth on materials, both to protect the materials from biological degradation and to prevent the spread of infections and toxins that can cause illness.
