2. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water
Sammanfattning : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 3. Antimicrobial materials from cellulose using environmentally friendly techniques
Sammanfattning : The transition to a more biobased society introduces both new opportunities and new challenges as we replace nonrenewable materials with renewable alternatives. One important challenge will be to control microbial growth on materials, both to protect the materials from biological degradation and to prevent the spread of infections and toxins that can cause illness. Mer specifikt är syftet att i ett praktiskt utforskande med förskolebarn och vatten – som aktör och mer-än-mänsklig samarbetspartner – undersöka hur eller med vilka metoder det är möjligt att producera ett engagemang, i vilket förskolebarnet är både kännare och kännande, i vår samtids centrala miljöfrågor. 5. Nanocellulose and Its Biohybrids for Water Purification : Atomic Force Microscopy as a Tool to Probe Surface Properties and Interactions
Sammanfattning : Nanocellulose has been explored extensively in recent years as an adsorbent due to its promising performance in the removal of charged contaminants from water. In this thesis, various atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques are used to understand the surface characteristics and specific interactions of nanocellulose with water contaminants (heavy metal ions and dyes) and nanoscale entities (Graphene Oxide (GO) and Graphene Oxide nanocolloids (nanoGO)), and explain the mechanisms related to adsorption, metal ion clustering, self-assembly and mechanical reinforcement.
