11. Design and synthesis of HIV-1 protease inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the causative agent of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The C2-symmetric HIV-1 protease is one of the prime targets for chemotherapy in the treatment of the HIV infection. Inhibition of HIV-1 protease leads to immature and non-infectious viral particles. 12. Studies of enzymes in mitochondrial DNA precursor synthesis : regulatory mechanisms for human thymidine kinase 2 and deoxyguanosine kinase
Sammanfattning : As important enzymes in mitochondrial nucleotide salvage pathway, thymidine kinase 2 (TK2) and deoxyguanosine kinase (dGK) are expressed constitutively in almost all cells. These two enzymes catalyze the initial rate-limiting phosphorylation of pyrimidine and purine deoxynucleosides, respectively, providing DNA precursors for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication. 13. Studies on novel immunosuppressive agents in experimental arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the joints. The hallmark of RA is persisting inflammation in diarthrodial joints with infiltration of leukocytes, thickening of the synovial lining layer and synovial pannus formation. LÄS MER
14. Host-Virus Interactions in Asthma and COPD
Sammanfattning : Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are associated with periods of worsened symptoms, known as exacerbations. Severe exac-erbations can result in hospitalisation, irreversible decline of the disease and sometimes death. Thus, exacerbations are a major cause of morbidity, mortality and healthcare cost. 15. Primary immunodeficiency in southern Sweden. Strategies for diagnosis and clinical management
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this PhD project was to gain insight into the incidence of primary immunodeficiency (PID) in southern Sweden and to optimize diagnostic and treatment measures for these patients. We estimated the occurrence rate of PID in the pediatric population of southern Sweden during a period of 4 years and described the demographic, clinical and immunological characteristics of the identified cases.
