  1. 31. Studies of hyperandrogenicity and the metabolic syndrome in premenopausal women

    Författare :Fariba Baghaei; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :androgens; SHBG; HPA axis; abdominal obesity; insulin; HDL; metabolic syndrome; ovarian volume; PCOS; polymorphism; genetics; androgen receptor; estrogen receptor; aromatase;

    Sammanfattning : An androgenic sex hormone profile appears to be a typical feature of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and a powerful risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes in women. The causes of relative hyperandrogenicity (HA) are not clearly defined. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Effects of Endogenous and Exogenous Hormones on the Female Breast : With Special Reference to the Expression of Proteoglycans

    Författare :Gunilla Hallberg; Tord Naessén; Gunvor Ekman-Ordeberg; Ingemar Persson; Cecilia Magnusson; Eva von Schoultz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast tissue; proteoglycans; mammographic density; oral contraceptives; androgen receptor; proliferation; apoptosis; extracellular matrix; premenopausal; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the effects of endogenous and exogenous hormones and mammographic breast density (BD) on cellular markers in non-cancerous female breast tissue. Women on the waiting list for breast reduction plastic surgery were recruited (n = 79), and randomized to 2 months of hormone therapy or no therapy before surgery. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Molecular heterogeneity of prostate cancer bone metastasis

    Författare :Erik Bovinder Ylitalo; Pernilla Wikström; Anders Bergh; Maria Brattsand; Vessela Kristensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; CRPC; castration-resistant; androgen receptor; splice variant; abiraterone; cabazitaxel; ABCB1; cholesterol; Mdr1; P-gp; bone metastasis; immune response; metabolism; osteoblast; osteoclast; BMP; methylation;

    Sammanfattning : Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develops after androgen deprivation therapy of advanced PC, often with metastatic growth in bone. Patients with metastatic CRPC have very poor prognosis. Growth of CRPC, in most but not all patients, seems to involve androgen receptor (AR) activity, despite castrate levels of serum testosterone. 4. 34. Testicular cancer; gonadal, sexual and psychological aspects of the disease and its treatment

    Författare :Jakob Eberhard; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; depression; sexual dysfunction; hypogonadism; testicular cancer; fertility; anxiety; androgen receptor;

    Sammanfattning : The survival rates among testicular germ cell cancer (TGCC) patients have dramatically increased and more than 95 % are cured. The question of quality of life of the survivors is, therefore, important. The TGCC treatment, and thereby its side-effects may vary. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Polycystic ovary syndrome – Studies of metabolic and ovarian disturbances and effects of physical exercise and electro-acupuncture

    Författare :Louise Mannerås Holm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipocyte size; adipose tissue; androgen excess; animal models; body composition; electro-acupuncture; insulin resistance; ovary; physical exercise; polycystic ovary syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine abnormality in premenopausal women. The syndrome is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovarian (PCO) morphology. Metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance and obesity, are also associated with PCOS. LÄS MER
