  1. 21. Characterization of nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae innate interactions with human cells

    Författare :Irini Lazou Ahrén; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; inflammation; TLR4; LBP; protein D; nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae; beta-glucan;

    Sammanfattning : Non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a human pathogen causing diseases in the upper and lower respiratory tract. Otitis media-prone children and adults with cystic fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, are repeatedly infected by NTHi Research in recent years brought to light the entry and survival of NTHi in epithelial cells and macrophages. Sammanfattning : In the last decade cancer immunotherapy has taken huge strides forward from bench to bedside and being approved as drugs. Cancer immunotherapy harnesses the power of patient’s own immune system to fight cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Tick-borne encephalitis : clinical and pathogenetic aspects

    Författare :Auksė Mickienė; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :tick-borne encephalitis;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the acute stage and at long-term follow-up, to identify the possible host risk factors for development of clinical TBE with special reference to the role of the genetic polymorphism, and to investigate neurochemical changes in the brain induced by TBE virus (TBEV) and their possible role on severity of TBE with special reference to endogenous kynurenic acid (KYNA). Paper I: Of 250 consecutively admitted patients with central nervous system (CNS) infections treated during a 1-year period, all 133 patients with TBE participated in the prospective follow-up study. 4. 24. Interventional studies on immunological balance in IBD and allergic asthma

    Författare :Vladislaw Muratov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : We have studied a role of immunological balance in connection to allergen challenge in asthma patients and in connection to apheresis treatment in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. It has been suggested that T-helper type 2 cells become recruited into the bronchial mucosa and regulate allergic asthma reaction. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Tissue Factor and CD40 Ligand : Markers for the Interplay of Coagulation and Inflammation in the Acute Coronary Syndrome

    Författare :Anders Mälarstig; Agneta Siegbahn; Lars Wallentin; Taavo Tenno; Fiona Green; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular medicine; tissue factor; CD40 ligand; gene expression; single nucleotide polymorphism; acute coronary syndrome; myocardial infarction; coagulation; inflammation; Molekylärmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein known as the main initiator of blood coagulation. CD40 ligand is another membrane molecule, which ligates to cell types associated with atherosclerotic plaques thereby mediating intraplaque inflammation and weakening of the fibrous cap. LÄS MER
