11. Natural killer T (NKT) lymphocytes regulate of intestinal tumor immunity
Sammanfattning : CD1d-restricted natural killer T (NKT) lymphocytes are known as potent early regulatory cells of immune responses, acting as a bridge between innate and adaptive immunity. While invariant NKT (iNKT) cells have a protective role in many tumor models, their ability to promote intestinal inflammation, known to enhance intestinal cancer, raised the question if they would be protective in intestinal tumor development. 12. An experimental study on the interaction between the neuro-endocrine and immune systems in the gastrointestinal tract
Sammanfattning : The mucosa lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is in immediate contact with food nutrients to allow a rapid and efficient digestion and absorption and at the same time protects against the incessant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes. Maintenance of normal physiological activities in the GI tract is dependent on a number of regulatory interactions between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, as well as environmental and genetic factors. 13. Systemic sclerosis : vascular, pulmonary and immunological aspects
Sammanfattning : In systemic sclerosis (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) and engagement of the vascular system lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate, in a consecutively included cohort of SSc (limited and diffuse) patients (n = 33), the T cell cytokine profile driving the disease in ILD and to explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor: tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in the extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading process leading to fibrous scarring and honey combing. 14. T lymphocyte recruitment in Helicobacter pylori-associated diseases
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is associated with pronounced infiltration of granulocytes and lymphocytes into the gastric mucosa, resulting in active chronic gastritis that may develop into duodenal ulcer disease or gastric adenocarcinoma (GC). Infiltrating T cells play a major role in the pathology of these diseases, but the signals involved in recruitment of T cells from blood to H. LÄS MER
15. Cyclic nucleotide signalling systems in vascular smooth muscle cells and immune system cells with special reference to phosphodiesterases PDE3 and PDE4
Sammanfattning : The cyclic nucleotide signalling systems are important in vascular smooth muscle and in the immune system, and are of interest from a pharmacological point of view. Drugs which interfere with the cyclic nucleotide levels have profound effects on heart, blood vessels and airways and have actual or potential use in several important diseases, such as heart failure, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, asthma and autoimmune diseases.
