1. Cyclic nucleotide signalling systems in vascular smooth muscle cells and immune system cells with special reference to phosphodiesterases PDE3 and PDE4
Sammanfattning : The cyclic nucleotide signalling systems are important in vascular smooth muscle and in the immune system, and are of interest from a pharmacological point of view. Drugs which interfere with the cyclic nucleotide levels have profound effects on heart, blood vessels and airways and have actual or potential use in several important diseases, such as heart failure, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, asthma and autoimmune diseases. 2. In Vitro Drug Sensitivity and Apoptosis in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
Sammanfattning : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a heterogeneous malignancy displaying varying clinical outcome, where molecular markers today can divide patients into prognostic subgroups. Despite the introduction of new agents for treatment, remissions are usually not sustained in CLL and resistance towards treatment can partly be explained by aberrant apoptosis. LÄS MER
3. Cytokine regulation in rodents with experimental arthritis
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this project has been to try to elucidate the mechanisms behind induction of arthritis by using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical methods to analyse the dynamics of the cytokine network in vivo, in the peripheral Iymphoid system and in the joints of rodents with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA)and oil-induced arthritis (OIA). We first examined the kinetics of cytokine gene expression in vivo, in the draining Iymph nodes of DA rats following immunization with rat type II collagen (RCII) emulsified in Freund's incomplete adjuvant oil (FIA) or with only FIA, which are regimens that induce CIA and OIA, respectively. 4. Immunomodulation of cytokine and chemokine production in animal models of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders
Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) is a CD4+ T cell-mediated autoimmune disease of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) that can be actively induced in susceptible animal species and strains by active immunization with heterogeneous peripheral nerve myelin or its component P2 or PO proteins or their peptides emulsified in Freund's complete adjuvant. EAN represents an animal model for studying the immunopathogenesis and therapy of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS ) which is a major inflammatory demyelinating disease of the PNS in humans. LÄS MER
5. Immunoregulation and immunotherapy in experimental autoimmune neuritis
Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) is a CD4+ T cell mediated autoimmune disease of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). EAN represents an animal model for studying the immunopathogenesis and immunotherapy of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). LÄS MER
