21. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies
Sammanfattning : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 22. Cancer risks in Swedish pesticide applicators in agriculture, forestry and gardening : a toxicological and epidemiological approach
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were (1) to study the cancer risks in Swedish pesticide applicators, which is one of the occupational groups that is most exposed to pesticides in Sweden. This could be done by utilizing a complete register kept by the Swedish Board of Agriculture which include 20,245 subjects with licenses issued between 1965 and 1976, for epidemiological studies. 23. Nucleic Acids as Drug Targets - Influence of Platinum Complexes on Duplex Stability and Binding Kinetics
Sammanfattning : Gaining a detailed understanding of how human cells are affected by metal-based drugs is crucial, since these drugs have shown great potential in cancer treatment. Cisplatin is used to treat many different types of cancer, e.g. testicular, ovarian, melanoma, bladder, non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, myelomas and lymphomas. LÄS MER
24. Preservation of male fertility in childhood acute leukemia : an experimental study addressing novel strategies and putative risks
Sammanfattning : Although treatment of cancer in young boys with cytotoxic agents has long been known to cause infertility in the survivors, the mechanisms underlying drug-induced damage to the immature testis remain unclear. A number of clinical issues associated with transplantation of testicular germ cells or tissues also require clarification. LÄS MER
25. A prospective randomized study of congenital cryptorchidism
Sammanfattning : Background: Cryptorchidism is the most common anomaly in newborn boys. Despite its frequency there are controversies regarding many aspects, including the optimal timing of surgery, natural course of the spontaneously descended testes, frequency of acquired cryptorchidism, risk of infertility and testicular cancer.
