  1. 21. Molecular studies of pancreatic cancer: Characterization of the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway

    Författare :Tord Jonson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SMAD4; PCR; FISH; cytogenetics; chromosome; pancreatic cancer; TGFB signaling; cytogenetik; Genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, genetic abnormalities in pancreatic cancer were studied, with special emphasis on alterations of components involved in the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) signaling pathway. In the first study, fluorescence in situ hybridization and cytogenetic analyses revealed aberrations of chromosome 18 in all 13 pancreatic carcinoma cell lines studied, in particular frequent breaks close to the centromere of chromosome arm 18q. 2. 22. Cross-regulation between TGFβ/BMP Signalling and the metabolic LKB1 pathway

    Författare :Erna Raja; Aristidis Moustakas; Tomi Mäkelä; Uppsala University Faculty of Medicine Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell signalling; TGFbeta; BMP; LKB1; AMPK; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Cell signalling determines physiological responses to many cellular stimuli and environmental changes. The transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)/bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling pathways begin by binding of ligand to the heterodimeric receptor complex, followed by activation of Smads that translocate to the nucleus to regulate transcription of genes that further mediate cellular physiology. 3. 23. Functional and bioinformatical studies of the TGFb superfamily : identification and characterization of ALK7

    Författare :Henrik Jörnvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily of polypeptide growth factors encompasses more than 30 diverse mammalian members. They are involved in most cellular processes, ranging from cell proliferation and differentiation, to survival and death. Loss of TGFbeta activity is coupled to tumor development and many other disorders. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Chronic pancreatitis fibrogenesis : the role of TGFB pathway inhibitor Smad7 in the fibrosis development

    Författare :Xuan Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic pancreatitis is characterized by progressive inflammation, acinar atrophy and fibrosis. Transforming growth factor-B signaling (TGFB) is the most potent fibrogenic cytokine known, and its increased expression is a common denominator for fibrosis in chronic pancreatitis. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Cytokine regulation in rodents with experimental arthritis

    Författare :Åsa Boström Müssener; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :collagen-induced arthritis; oil-induced arthritis; IL-2; IL-4; TNFa; IFNy; TGFß;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this project has been to try to elucidate the mechanisms behind induction of arthritis by using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical methods to analyse the dynamics of the cytokine network in vivo, in the peripheral Iymphoid system and in the joints of rodents with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA)and oil-induced arthritis (OIA). We first examined the kinetics of cytokine gene expression in vivo, in the draining Iymph nodes of DA rats following immunization with rat type II collagen (RCII) emulsified in Freund's incomplete adjuvant oil (FIA) or with only FIA, which are regimens that induce CIA and OIA, respectively.
