  1. 1. Tick-borne encephalitis - clinical and virological aspects

    Författare :Malin Veje; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis; TBE; zoonosis; sequelae; fatigue; polysomnography; sleep; functional outcome; serology; PCR; complement activation; classical pathway;

    Sammanfattning : Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), an important central nervous system infection in Europe and Asia, is caused by the TBE virus (TBEV), which is mainly transmitted to humans through tick bites. This thesis studied data from 201 of the 373 patients diagnosed in Region Västra Götaland between 1997 and 2017. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Essays in Environmental Management and Economics: Public Health, Risk and Strategic Environmental Assessment

    Författare :Daniel Slunge; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; risk; risk perception; public health; strategic environmental assessment; institutions; governance; willingness to pay; protective behaviour; vector-borne diseases; ticks; TBE; tick-borne encephalitis; Lyme borreliosis; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Current large-scale environmental and climate change leads to the emergence of new and potentially dramatic risks for individuals and societies. The welfare costs associated with these risks largely depend on our ability to take them into account in decision-making and adapt to new circumstances. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Origin of the Genus Flavivirus and the Ecology of Tick-Borne Pathogens

    Författare :John H.-O. Pettersson; Thomas Jaenson; Sven Bergström; Kenneth Nilsson; Mikael Thollesson; Per-Eric Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flavivirus; Virus dating; Molecular dating; Biogeography; Ixodes ricinus; Minimum infection rate; TBE; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; Rickettsia helvetica; Anaplasma phagocytophilum; Infection prevalence; RT-PCR; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis examines questions related to the temporal origin of the Flavivirus genus and the ecology of tick-borne pathogens. In the first study, we date the origin and divergence time of the Flavivirus genus. It has been argued that the first flaviviruses originated after the last glacial maximum. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Vaccine responses after chemotherapy or stem cell transplantation in patients with hematological malignancies

    Författare :Sigrun Einarsdottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vaccination; chemotherapy; stem cell transplantation; antibodies; tetanus; diphtheria; polio; Tick-borne encephalitis TBE ; SARS-CoV-2;

    Sammanfattning : The prevention of infections in patients with hematological malignancies is important given the inherent immune deficiency associated with these diseases and the immunosuppressive effects of treatment. This thesis investigated the efficacy of vaccines against various pathogens among patients with hematological disease receiving chemotherapy or stem cell transplantation, including the longevity of vaccine responses. 5. 5. Tick-borne encephalitis : clinical and pathogenetic aspects

    Författare :Auksė Mickienė; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :tick-borne encephalitis;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the acute stage and at long-term follow-up, to identify the possible host risk factors for development of clinical TBE with special reference to the role of the genetic polymorphism, and to investigate neurochemical changes in the brain induced by TBE virus (TBEV) and their possible role on severity of TBE with special reference to endogenous kynurenic acid (KYNA). Paper I: Of 250 consecutively admitted patients with central nervous system (CNS) infections treated during a 1-year period, all 133 patients with TBE participated in the prospective follow-up study.
