  1. 16. Studies on sensitization and atopic disease in infants and children

    Författare :Nele Sigurs; Inga-Lisa Strannegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Sensitization to food allergens dominated in infancy and IgE antibodies to inhalant allergens appeared later in a cross-sectional multicentre study of 224 children with atopic disease (113 children aged 0-3 years and 111 children aged 4-15 years). IgE antibodies to peanut, hazelnut, and almond were important in both age groups and even before known ingestion in infancy, suggesting sensitization through breast-milk. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Mass Spectrometry Strategies for Characterization of Contact Allergens and their Protein Conjugates in Vitro and in Vivo

    Författare :Lorena Ndreu; Isabella Karlsson; Margareta Törnqvist; Ulrika Nilsson; Maja Aleksic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; Skin allergy; Protein Adducts; In vitro methods; Bioanalysis; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are daily exposed to chemicals from various sources, including cosmetics, jewelry, clothes, and hair dyes, which can result in the occurrence of contact allergy and subsequent allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), a type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction. ACD is characterized by inflammation and eczema at the site of exposure, and no definitive cure for this condition has been identified to date, with only symptomatic treatment options involving corticosteroids being available. 3. 18. Respiratory symptoms and atopic sensitization among school children in different settings around the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Lennart Bråbäck; Gören Pershagen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to assess the prevalence of respiratory symptoms and atopic sensitization and related risk faCtors amo:Og school children in urban and rural areas of Sundsvall in Northern Sweden and urban areas of Konin in Poland and Tallinn and Tartu in Estonia. Ambient levels of N02 were similar in urban Sundsvall and Konin whereas levels of S02 and smoke were about 5 times higher in Konin than in Sundsvall. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Assessing eczema and food allergy in young children

    Författare :Irene Devenney; Karin Fälth-Magnusson; Arne Høst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atopy; eczema; food allergy; nitric oxide; oral food challenge; skin prick test; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Atopic disease is an increasing problem. Eczema affects 10-20% of young children, and 33-37% of children with eczema are food allergic. Among other factors, nitric oxide (NO) is thought to play a role in eczema and food allergy. LÄS MER

  5. 20. New insights in contact allergy and drug delivery. A study of formulation effects and hapten targets in skin using two-photon fluorescence microscopy

    Författare :Carl Simonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; contact allergy; cubic phases; cutaneous absorption; bromobimane; isothiocyanate; lipid vesicles; nano; pilosebaceous unit; ; two-photon microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The skin is a remarkable barrier, protecting us from invasion of e.g. harmful microorganisms and UV-radiation. However, the skin is not adopted to resist repeated exposure to the multitude of xenobiotics introduced into modern society. LÄS MER
