  1. 1. Protein adducts of hexahydrophthalic anhydride- chemical structures and biomarkers

    Författare :Monica Kåredal; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arbetsmiljömedicin; Yrkesmedicin; industrial medicine; Occupational health; nasal lavage; mass spectrometry; biomarker; human serum albumin; hemoglobin; Hexahydrophthalic anhydride; adducts;

    Sammanfattning : Organic acid anhydrides (OAAs) are low molecular weight chemicals used in the industry for manufacturing of plastics such as epoxy resins. Exposure to these chemicals may lead to symptoms from the eyes and the respiratory tract in form of conjunctivitis, rhinitis and asthma. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mass Spectrometry Strategies for Characterization of Contact Allergens and their Protein Conjugates in Vitro and in Vivo

    Författare :Lorena Ndreu; Isabella Karlsson; Margareta Törnqvist; Ulrika Nilsson; Maja Aleksic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; Skin allergy; Protein Adducts; In vitro methods; Bioanalysis; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are daily exposed to chemicals from various sources, including cosmetics, jewelry, clothes, and hair dyes, which can result in the occurrence of contact allergy and subsequent allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), a type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction. ACD is characterized by inflammation and eczema at the site of exposure, and no definitive cure for this condition has been identified to date, with only symptomatic treatment options involving corticosteroids being available. 3. 3. Metabolism and Biological Monitoring of Organic Acid Anhydrides

    Författare :Christian Lindh; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; human; distribution; analysis; biological monitoring; autoradiography; adducts; hemoglobin; plasma; urine; Hexahydrophthalic anhydride; methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride; guinea pigs; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to describe the metabolism and to develope methods for biological monitoring for two organic acid anhydrides (OAAs), namely hexahydrophthalic anhydride (HHPA) and methylhexa-hydrophthalic anhydride (MHHPA). The OAAs are reactive, low molecular weight chemicals used in vast quantities in the industry. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Protection of Biomolecules by Antioxidants - Mechanisms and Applications

    Författare :Carl Grey; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dG; antioxidants; mass spectrometry; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; DNA; Oxidation; Protein; Fenton reaction;

    Sammanfattning : Reactive oxygen species (ROS) consisting of various oxygen-based free radicals as well as other reactive non-radical species produced in O2-related metabolism or through other processes are involved in the oxidation of such vital biomolecules as DNA, proteins and lipids. The types of oxidation represented here are known to cause many different diseases and disorders in human beings, such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease and ageing. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Protein Modifications by Low Molecular Weight Chemicals Inducing Airways Diseases

    Författare :Marina Jeppsson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MSight; hemoglobin human serum albumin; nasal lavage; acrylates; organic acid anhydrides; persulfate; biomarkers adducts; mass spectrometry; MoDetect;

    Sammanfattning : Airways diseases are one of the most common health effects in the western world today. It has been shown that low molecular weight chemicals (LMWC) can cause airways diseases. The mechanisms for these diseases are not well known in most cases. Also, methods for biological monitoring of exposure are not available for many of these LMWC. LÄS MER
