  1. 26. Acute Otitis Media. Aspects of diagnosis and prophylaxis

    Författare :Margaretha Foglé-Hansson; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diagnosis; Acute otitis media; Infections; prophylaxis; Infektioner; Otorhinolaryngology; auditive system and speech; audiology; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Acute otitis media (AOM) is one of the most common childhood diseases and the most common causes of antibiotic treatment in small children. Most children will experience one or two episodes of AOM during preschool age but some will suffer from repeated attacks, they will become otitis-prone. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Nasopharynx and mucosa associated lymphatic tissue : studies on mucosal immunity, nasopharyngeal colonization with non-encapsulated non-typable Haemophilus influenzae and local administration of immunoglobulin in the upper respiratory tract

    Författare :Karin Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nasopharyngeal colonization with non-encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae (NTHI) frequently occurs in infants and in adults with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), but is rarely found among healthy adults. In children with recurrent episodes of acute otitis media (RAOM), NTHI is more common than in healthy individuals. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Studies on two bacterial resistance mechanisms to β-lactam antibiotics : extended spectrum β-lactamases in Klebsiella oxytoca and methicillin resistance in staphylococci

    Författare :Shang Wei Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Eleven clinical isolates of Klebsiella oxytoca from Stockholm hospitals were found to be resistant to aztreonam and cefuroxime (MIC > 16 mg/L). The resistance was caused by a ß-lactamase with pI 5.25 and designated KH. Assay of the substrate profiles revealed that the KH ß-lactarnase was similar to the chromosomally encoded OXY-2 ß-lactamase. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Complement-dependent defence against bacterial infection. Studies in C2 deficiency

    Författare :Barbro Selander; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibody responses; polysaccharide antigens; vaccination; mannan-binding lectin MBL ; complement; C2 deficiency; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The complement system is critically involved in defence against bacterial infection. C2 deficiency is, apart from mannan-binding lectin (MBL) deficiency, the most common homozygous complement deficiency among Caucasians. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Quantifying effects of antimicrobial drug combinations by modelling and simulation

    Författare :Chenyan Zhao; Lena Friberg; Elisabet I. Nielsen; Shampa Das; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; modelling and simulation; antibiotic combination; model-based translation; antibiotic resistance; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is becoming an accelerating issue, both in the treatment of nosocomial infections and for public health in general. There is a pressing need for innovative methods to understand how available antibiotics could be combined to overcome and limit the emergence of resistance. LÄS MER
