1. Revisiting dental caries as an immunodeficiency disorder
Sammanfattning : Worldwide, dental caries is the major human chronic disease, with billions of people affected in terms of life quality impairment and high society costs that consumes 5-10% of the global healthcare budget. In Western countries dental caries has declined dramatically, with a trajectory of 15% high-risk individuals with recurrent caries and a non-responder behavior to standard prevention. LÄS MER
2. Cariological Studies on Endodontically Treated Teeth
Sammanfattning : Caries might jeopardize the long-term successful outcome of endodontic therapy. Therefore, it is of an interest for the endodontist to evaluate caries susceptibility of root-filled teeth (RFT). In the present thesis, several studies were conducted to explore this relationship. 3. Conventional, microfilled and hybrid composite resins : laboratory and clinical evaluations
Sammanfattning : Three types of composite resins, classified as conventional, microfilled and hybrid resins were compared with respect to surface characteristics, effect on the gingival margin, marginal adaptation and clinical durability in anterior cavities. The surface characteristics were studied in in vitro systems by means of scanning electron microscopy. 4. On Caries Risk Profile and Prevention in an Adult Saudi Population
Sammanfattning : Objectives. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate: 1) the caries profile in an adult Saudi population with several dental restorations using a computer-based program (Cariogram), 2) the prevalence of primary and recurrent caries and of filled tooth surfaces in relation to the Cariogram outcome, expressed as “the chance of avoiding caries”, 3) the quality of dental restorations and the additional value of using bitewing radiographs, 4) the effect of a “modified fluoride toothpaste technique” on the incidence and progression of approximal caries diagnosed on bitewings and 5) the preventive effect of this toothpaste technique on buccal and lingual enamel caries and to determine the role of patient compliance. 5. Clinical aspects of restorative treatment in the primary dentition
Sammanfattning : The failure rate of restorative treatment in primary teeth was studied in a cohort of children born in 1981 and related to caries diagnosis, prevalence and distribution on different tooth surfaces, and compared with a cohort of children born in 1971. Concurrently, the longevity of composite resin in modified Class 2 cavities in primary molars was followed up and the resistance of deciduous and permanent enamel to acid adjacent to composite resin and glass polyalkeonate cement (GPA) was tested in vitro.
