  1. 1. Effect of Probiotics on Caries-related Variables

    Författare :Sahal Alforaidi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial interference; ; Caries; Caries prevention; ; Dental biofilm; ; Dental plaque; ; Lactobacilli; Lactobacillus reuteri; ; Streptococcus mutans; ; Plaque acidogenicity; ; Probiotics; qPCR; Saliva; Virulence;

    Sammanfattning : In relation to the caries disease, the aims of this thesis were to investigate the effect of probiotic drops on different caries-related variables in vivo (Papers I & III), on interference capability and genetic response to different metabolites in vitro (II) and systematically to review the best mode and dose of administration based on the examined oral outcomes (IV). The effects on colonisation and cariogenic bacteria were studied in plaque and saliva via plating and qPCR-analyses in teenagers and orthodontic patients after short-term exposure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cariological Studies on Endodontically Treated Teeth

    Författare :Khalid Merdad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Caries risk; Caries susceptibility; Cariogram; Endodontic treatment; Jönköping; Sweden; Micro-CT; Recurrent caries; Saudi Arabia;

    Sammanfattning : Caries might jeopardize the long-term successful outcome of endodontic therapy. Therefore, it is of an interest for the endodontist to evaluate caries susceptibility of root-filled teeth (RFT). In the present thesis, several studies were conducted to explore this relationship. 3. 3. The effect of malnutrition on saliva composition and caries development

    Författare :Ingegerd Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :starvation; protein-deficiency; antibacterial proteins; saliva; caries; infection;

    Sammanfattning : Starvation and protein deficiency increase susceptibility to infections in general and affect the function of various types of cells individually. Saliva contains substances which offer protection to the oral tissues. Its composition and secretion rate may be important in preventing the development of disease, e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Host ligands and oral bacterial adhesion : studies on phosphorylated polypeptides and gp-340 in saliva and milk

    Författare :Liza Danielsson Niemi; Ingegerd Johansson; Pernilla Lif Holgersson; Jukka Meurman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adhesion; statherin; gp-340; caseins; human milk; saliva; Streptococcus mutans; Actinomyces; Cariology; Cariologi; kariologi; Cariology;

    Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases e.g. gastric ulcer, caries and perodontitis, are caused by bacteria in a biofilm. Adhesion of bacteria to host ligands e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gingival recession development in orthodontic patients : studies on gingival phenotype diagnostics, local and systemic biomarkers, and the impact of orthodontic treatment on gingival recession development

    Författare :Dimitrios Kloukos; Andreas Stavropoulos; Christos Katsaros; Timo Peltomäki; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Gingival recession refers to the apical displacement of the gingival margin from the cemento-enamel junction, resulting in exposure of the root of the tooth. Recessions can be localized, involving a single surface and tooth or may involve more tooth surfaces and/or teeth. LÄS MER
